Question Seat selection on intra european flights?

Reserved flights for two travelers between Spain & Germany. Itinerary states Class as lowest fare. If we check in 24 hours before departure to obtain boarding cards, does Iberia assign us random seats or at least two together? Or if we get our boarding cards at the check in desk at the airport would the agent find us two seats together?

IIRC airport agents can't override the system to re-seat you together.

The only way to guarantee sitting together is to pay or to have elite status. That said, I'm not aware of Iberia's seat algorithm being so abusive as to separate passengers on purpose.

Are the "random" seats assigned at check in 24 hours before flight?
