JFK-CMN Using Iberia Avios on Royal Air Maroc
Hey guys,
Looking at what I can do with my 90,000 avios..once they hit my account..
Came across this article from TPG https://thepointsguy.com/guide/best-...-iberia-avios/
One of the examples is Royal Air Maroc from JFK-CMN. In this example, it's stated that round trip in Business from JFK-CMN will run you 100K miles.
Here is the Iberia redemption chart for Royal Air Maroc
https://www.iberia.com/web/webPartne...3&idSector=641
JFK-CMN is 3609 miles, putting it at 46K Avios return in business.
Two questions stem from this..
1) Is the distance listed in these charts based on round trip? I see the Avios required are listed in round trip, but is the avios required listed as round trip as well? Am I wrong, or is the article? 3609 X 2 = 7218 which does put it at 100K return if you do it that way.
2) I read somewhere that all non-Iberia operated flights can only be booked as round trip. Any truth to that? I'd love to do one way from JFK-CMN for both my wife and I, but have no idea if it's possible or how many Avios it would run us.
Thanks a bunch as always

Chart is distance based and it is 3609 miles between those two points. So obviously RT is double and 100k is correct. Charts show the one way distances.
Partner bookings have to be RT. Most partners (not BA) are non refundable/changebale so be sure of the dates you want or you could lose those Avios if you cancel or change.

Be aware that bloggers often write about what they read on the IB website, not what they have actually tried themselves and/or is relatively simple to book with an agent.
By all means make the attempt, but be prepared to speak to several agents who claim it can't be done or they can't find award space.

Too bad you can't do one-way. So I just booked the trip all on IB it's 86k RT in J. which isn't bad but the taxes + fees suck. Not sure what they are on RAM.

The cash element isn't substantially more than an IB J reward would cost anyhow, so that's not a bad deal if your final destination is Morocco on peak dates...

Might be covered elsewhere but some google search tells me the answer is very inconsistent from CS of IB / is it possible to book open jaws? Say, Shanghai to Tokyo, then Tokyo to Beijing? Or Shanghai to Tokyo and then Osaka to Hong Kong?
Thanks a ton!

Pulled the trigger on an all biz round trip booking from NYC-CAS-LIS for Sept 2018. The return leg has a 21hr layover so we get a taste of Casablanca. No stopovers are allowed on partner awards.
Tried to book last night. The first two agents were positively useless. I even started taking notes as it was so comical. The first flat out said IB Avios could only be used for IB flight and then cut me off - sent to a survey (naturally I gave rave reviews). The 2nd was slightly better, but after 5 minutes she said I that i needed to speak with an Avios specialist and was transferring me; after 10 minutes on permahold, I hung up as I found a note on the web that the award reps work from 8a-midnight their time zone (someplace in Europe).
This morning gave it another go. Found a unicorn. The rep spoke English better than most reps here. Her working knowledge of the system was amazing. She was able to find exactly what I could on Air Maroc's site. She even tried, but could not force a stop over. She waited whilst I transferred Chase UR for the Mrs, and then for me. BTW, Chase transfers are instant, AMEX can take a day or two. Then waited for me to get the two separate e-tickets to confirm all was correct.
A cool side note: this just gets in under the wire at 7986 miles - 8000 is the cutoff for the next award tier.
Overall not the best long term use of IB Avios, but I have a family situation that makes me need to travel sooner than later.
