  • Login problems: If you have trouble logging into the Iberia website, type in your number and password by hand instead of using autocomplete. For some people this fixes login issues.
  • Partner awards: Many flights on partners will not be available as one-way. You must redeem AA flights as a round trip for example
  • Cancellations: Iberia awards on AA cannot be cancelled.
Iberia Plus offer 9000 per booking 21/JUN to 24/JUN on iberia.com

Worst case would be that your IB account gets a negative balance and you can transfer them back to pay your "debt".
If you leave them in the IB account, they will be deleted.
In fact, if you have non-promo Avios in your IB account, I would definitely transfer them out. I don't trust IB to get this right.
I didn't have enough Avios in the IB+ so I used the AMEX 40% transfer offer to make the booking work. There are left over Avios in IB+ that I will move to BA. I did use up all the promo Avios but like you stated it is better transfer the remaining just in case.

AA works but there maybe occasional/often phantom (can do so without logging in). BA/QF and EF works as well but that requires logging in.

The best way really is ExpertFlyer now that they’ve added support for IB.
IB availability is sometimes a lot better through IB than through BA even.

Risk Analysis of transferring the Avios points to BAEC:

Worst case scenario: Negative IB+ Avios balance. Impact: Little. Might have to close and repoen a new IB+ account. Could also be banned frim IB+ but it's not a big deal since IB+ not useful anyways.

Has anyone OLCI'd for the €25 flights and not flown ? I have a number coming up in the next few days and I was thinking (cheeky) that there might be some extra Avios and TP to be picked up, as I have switched my FF number in the bookings to my BAEC number.

Well, while Iberia as award booking platform is useless for many/most people, it is very useful as a way to earn Avios that are then transferred to BAEC – Spanish Groupon sales, AccorHotels points conversions, Economist offers etc. For that reason I personally care to keep Iberia account alive. And making new one may not work for this purpose (easy to track down) or even if it works, there is a risk they track you down later and freeze both accounts.

The worst case scenario is that your IB account goes negative and they merge your accounts, so that your BA account gets a negative balance as well.

It does work at times. Even at times with BAEC number in the record, but also sometimes with different partner program numbers in the booking. But either way it most commonly would involve submitting a request for manual credit for the presented flight's boarding pass.

That certainly raises the moral question of whether you should be retro-crediting a flight to receive miles that you know you aren't entitled to. But people can figure that one out for themselves.

As for a BA member earning Avios automatically on an IB flight not taken, it would take a perfect storm for such an error to occur...

I wasn’t talking about such error as you mention in the last sentence above.

The airline program operator’s agents decide whether or not they should credit an account with miles for a paid ticket, used in full or not, and when to do so.

Requesting that BA credit Avios for a presented boarding pass for a legally valid ticket with the BAEC number in the record and on the boarding pass is likely to be more effective at getting the BAEC program credit than if the number weren’t there.

Airline terms and conditions for a ticket or loyalty program don’t necessarily trump consumer protecting laws and principles applicable in all courts. Something Iberia recently learned in part when a Spanish court ruled that missing or skipping the use of part of a ticketed booking doesn’t allow the airlines to legally cancel the validity of the rest of the previously confirmed flights on the same ticketed booking. If anything, such cases show that it’s the airlines that are generally the least moral party in the relationship between the airlines and the ticketed customers. You do know that it’s said that law is generally the lowest common denomination of morality, and yet the airlines were worse than even the low common denominator of morality according to yet another court ruling.

the airlines have no moral ground, if it were up to them and there were no competition or regulation constraints, they would have no qualms about wiping the floor with the passengers.

Got the missing Avios finally!

I contacted Iberia's English Twitter account last Sunday after a number of emails over the last few months, and my partner now finally has received the 90000 avios. Now just trying to decide where to go!!
