  • Login problems: If you have trouble logging into the Iberia website, type in your number and password by hand instead of using autocomplete. For some people this fixes login issues.
  • Partner awards: Many flights on partners will not be available as one-way. You must redeem AA flights as a round trip for example
  • Cancellations: Iberia awards on AA cannot be cancelled.

Please do a separate data point for each account. If you opened accounts for others (spouse, child, parent, etc), please make a separate entry for each account you opened. Please follow the formatting below so we have some consistency. USER: Your FT username
OWNER: SELF or WIFE/CHILD/MOM/DAD/etc. Owner of the account (i.e. the name on the account).
ACCT: NEW or OLD. New = created during promo period. Old = created prior to promo period.
YEAR: Optional. Year account opened.
DOCS?: DOCS or NO DOCS. Did you submit identity documentation to IB?
VERIFIED: VERIFIED or UNVERIFIED. Has IB actually verified the docs you submitted yet (via email confirmation)?
POSTED?: POSTED or NOT POSTED. Points posted to account?

So we all know this is only happening to new accounts.

I've called Iberia Brazil and they informed me that due to the promo, they are updating the database causing these issues with new accounts.

If that is true or not, whether they will post the Avios to everyone or not, no one knows. We can't bash on Iberia or assume they are scamming every one until we have an official position from them and people start reporting on receiving the Avios.

Even though it's been 10 days, I try to think that they did not expect this volume which can cause some delays, however we know that today (10 days after) they are making actions (whether processing to everyone or really blocking accounts).. They even added a CAPTCHA when searching for award flights (thinking of the huge traffic when they post the Avios).

Multiple Iberia employees said different things. Making assumptions and spreading this like it's true is not going to help anyone..

We just need to sit and wait!

Just have read few comments on blogs of customers from Brazil who get this answer from Iberia Brazil : "we will not post points for accounts that are not more than 3+ days before promotion". Sounds totally crazy, wait and see.

Another datapoint,.. my account is several years old and was accessible with Chrome until this afternoon. Now get password error on Chrome but fine on Firefox

Trying to see what's going on with the login error, I just spoke with IP+ agent in Mexico, she told me after reviewing my recently created IP+ account numbers that the accounts were locked. Wow.

What kind of document they can ask for... ?
Anyway the main issue here (as always) is related to the army of greedy morons who opened 10 accounts (including of for their cat an dog). I bet they face a lot of weird accounts / duplicated.

This could actually make a lot of sense! There are a lot of people who created 4 - 5 different accounts to purchase 40-50 tickets as Iberia's website doesn't have any indentity confirmation so you could make up 10 different users. Since all that matter is the Avios, this could be very possible since you can redeem to anyone.

It would make a lot of sense for Iberia to send a form and ask you to provide with a scan of your passaport or other government ID because this way they would save many Avios from fake accounts.

I mean, that would make total sense for Iberia to do and would be entirely fair. Not unreasonable for them to ask for a scan of a passport to confirm that people aren't creating IB+ accounts with made-up passport numbers in order to cash in 10x on the same promo. For the idiots who did that, of course they should be denied. But at the same time, those who created new accounts legitimately should be allowed through assuming they provide the necessary supporting docs.

I didn't book any IB flights as the promo just seemed to good to be true, so don't have a stake. But it does put a different spin on the promo - maybe it was all well thought through and they expected people to get greedy and generate multiple accounts so that they can now use the funds from the flights that were booked there to fund the payout of the avios? ;-)

Don't think so. I can book a round trip from São Paulo to Madrid in Business and still have some avios left. That would cost almost 10x more than I actually paid for the tickets.
