  • Login problems: If you have trouble logging into the Iberia website, type in your number and password by hand instead of using autocomplete. For some people this fixes login issues.
  • Partner awards: Many flights on partners will not be available as one-way. You must redeem AA flights as a round trip for example
  • Cancellations: Iberia awards on AA cannot be cancelled.

Hi, sorry for the late reply. Yes, the flight must be used in order to validate your promotion purchase: [promo URL] /1

If the customer requests a flight refund, either because it is permitted by the fare or for any other reason, the promotional Avios will be withdrawn from their account. This applies for no shows as well. Kind regards. /2
Not sure if that makes sense - what if I booked a flight yesterday for 1/1/2019 and am unable to fly it before the promotional Avios would be withdrawn?

Who cares whether it´s shown or not on the web. June 24 is gone.

Hi tobsw, not sure what I did to trigger such a negative response, but:
i) didn't I mention that it expired?
i) my post was a direct response to inY's comment.
ii) it shows Iberia's incompetence to still have a reference on thier homepage for a promo that expired?

Sounds like they’re correcting themselves. Now they have tweeted:

Sorry for the misunderstanding, you actually receive Avios even if you don't fly, you won't receive them just in case you ask for the refund of the ticket. Kind regards.

My IB number showed in the emails, but not on the booking. I called and they said they could see the number there on their end, and that the flights qualified for the promo. Today I have the ability to add the FF to the booking...not sure if I should or not. Anyone add theirs after 6pm yesterday?

I did today via ba.com at around 9am GMT. Same situation, show on emails but couldn't add previously because the account was new

I'm really thinking IB was some sort of evil genius here. Redemptions are hard on IB for partners and for people that transfer out, they'll end up negative and I bet they partner with BAEC to be able to take those avios out of BAEC and both programs end up with better balance sheets. In the mean time, they're getting millions in cash for seats people have no intention of flying. They will then brag over the next year about how much they are saving in ground handling costs while they can load up more cargo in the flights.

I took part in this madness with assumption that I will use avios on redemption on Iberia business longhaul. If I can't find availability, I may use avios to book hotels, depending how good or bad deals are. But if I can save 50% or more of hotel price, it will be decent option. I did not plan to transfer miles to BAEC. I even tried to book flights, which I could use for sightseeing. Some will not be used but maybe I will manage a weekend or two away.

I checked my credit card this morning and all 10 charges from Thursday evening are still "Pending". I'm starting to wonder if they will just disappear soon...

hi gnargel! Sorry for my abrupt response.

What I meant is that even though a website is showing a promotion, or something... it really doesn't mean anything. There's nothing wrong showing an expired promo on their homepage, it's good for reference.

All big companies have this, their promo page remains "active". Look at this web , promo ended a few years agoo.... and no, it's not Iberia.

Say those $27 fares ($15 base, $12 taxes) do not get used. Customer never asks for a refund. Do the $12 in taxes still belong to the government? Or would IB get to pocket that?

they'd be offset against the no show penalty, as the taxes would be refundable but the customer would owe the no-show fee which for these cheap tickets probably exceeds the taxes. However any excess taxes would become a liability on their balance sheet that need to technically be repaid. Pretty sure it's illegal to collect a fee denoted as a tax and then not pay it to the government. Depending on the type of tax it might just be a civil offense but for things like VAT it's usually criminal.

Not sure how it works in Spain but in USA and NZ, taxes collected are paid after collection, not after "use of tickets"
