  • Login problems: If you have trouble logging into the Iberia website, type in your number and password by hand instead of using autocomplete. For some people this fixes login issues.
  • Partner awards: Many flights on partners will not be available as one-way. You must redeem AA flights as a round trip for example
  • Cancellations: Iberia awards on AA cannot be cancelled.

Couple of interesting things here. Firstly sock puppet accounts are being scrutinised. This is damage limitation, therefore there is damage and it is now someone in Iberia's job to limit it. Manually verifying new accounts is a big job and expensive. This is a serious effort and implies this is not something IB is taking on the chin.

The fact that they are offering refunds for out of country bookings is significant. They don't have to. Personally, I wouldn't argue the toss here, I'd take the refund. You might find it disappears if there's a dispute.

Next step? Strict T&C, and enforcing a no transfer policy. The avios only have a net cost if they are redeemed or transferred, so it follows that IB will want to prevent that and allow them to dissolve in December. There's a significant risk that app bookings won't count, if that can be detected it's an obvious way of limiting damage further.

IB has stated on Twitter multiple times that app bookings count.
(But then again, why would you book through the app when you could get 4.95Ä cashback per booking through the website?)

if it is true, it is very disappointing that IB changing the T&C after customers buy the tickers. I think IB should provide method to refund the ticker without charges.

Yes, i got the same error after IB update the website design ~2months ago.

Although iberia has stated on Twitter/Facebook, they may change/add some rules in the T&C when too many customers join the promotion.

Meanwhile, IAG also just released 2.2 billion new avios to settle the class action against BA in the US, but if you think a devaluation isnít imminent... fine by me!

Yes they most definitely do have to offer a refund if they offered a flight with 9000 bonus avios then retroactively added T&Cs that stopped you getting them...

When did I say a devaluation isn't imminent? Not that I'd believe it has anything to do with these promotions/compensation payments if it is, these are small fry in the grand scheme of things.

Pretty easy to ringfence them, but it can't be implemented over night if they didn't already have a mechanism for it (I'd be surprised if they don't). I develop software for lottery sites and we have dozens of ringfenced balances which are combined to the total, but certain balances are excluded from certain things (e.g. promo credits can't be withdrawn or are limited to certain games)

I recently got a few thousand Avios into my IB+ account from an Avis promo, just logged onto Avios.com and pulled them through (and pushed onto BAEC) with no problems whatsoever.

IB+ account balance now at 0, awaiting for that to become 90000 on Friday (or thereabouts !)

I'm no IT expert, so will take it as read that the above is correct. One would have thought if they'd wanted to do this, they probably should have planned it before the promotion though, as I doubt a solution can be developed, tested and applied in a few days.

Regardless, We are talking about Iberia here, who don't have a reputation for being best in class IT wise, to put it extremely kindly!

not be able to book through Iberia's redemption page there are no avios + cash tariff shown,
even though it is for a flight operated by Iberia (MAD-BCN)
*no avios from promotion yet

As a datapoint, I am able to use the Iberia website completely normally to price:
  • Revenue flights
  • Revenue flights with Avios reduction
  • Avios redemptions
Balance is still 0 though !!

My family all booked flights through this - for a total of 6 people (60 flights). All locked out of accounts yesterday so I sent through the form and ID. Had positive confirmations of emails received for all but one which got a 'Failure email reception' response. The auto response said to include IB number in the subject line and when I did this it went through.

This morning I used the app to reset pins and now in all the accounts apart from the same one that got the 'Failure email reception' response. Worryingly the app says the IB number is invalid. This was the only one of the accounts which has an Irish passport (but UK address in N.I. and booked through UK site)...

Correct. My account is not blocked and I get the refund one hour before. While my friends with blocked accounts have not been issued the refund.
