  • Login problems: If you have trouble logging into the Iberia website, type in your number and password by hand instead of using autocomplete. For some people this fixes login issues.
  • Partner awards: Many flights on partners will not be available as one-way. You must redeem AA flights as a round trip for example
  • Cancellations: Iberia awards on AA cannot be cancelled.

^ ^ been a few years since I studied accounting, certainly not up to date with 2018 rules, thanks for the insight, there's definitely a way they could cook it if they wanted to though

Does the Iberia Plus part of the website not show upcoming bookings? Can't seem to find them anywhere, like you would with BA etc...? My Iberia Plus number is on all the bookings I made.

I cant find any page in iberia webpage able to show list of my upcoming bookings (neither flight/checkin online, it just a deadloop page keep asking my login id and password, nor through ib app). But when i search each booking individually by PNR, all bookings were properly attached with my ib plus number.
PS my account is non-freshly opened one.

When viewing Iberia.com in Chrome, I log in top right, then go to Your flights | Check-in online.

A little plane graphic appears for a few seconds then the list of my bookings is displayed.

Worked every time for me so far...
SFO777 and Tibor like this.

It seems it depends on the country you select.
For me, the Spanish version works best.

this one is black and white from an accounting perspective:
1. DR expense CR liability when they issue the avios
2. DR liability CR revenue when the flight is flown
The accounting for the redemption of the points is a bit more complicated depending how they are redeemed.

But anyone making an attempt to cook the books on this one would need to hide their tracks pretty well, and also have a pretty good argument ready for the auditors when they notice different accounting for the same types of transactions they process every single day. Therefore I doubt there’s anything shady going on with this one.

Sorry to sidetrack the thread. It’s very rare that my work (accounting/finance) and passion (flying/travel) combine in one place.

A little off surely, since you're trying to balance an income statement account (expense/revenue) with a balance sheet item. If it's booked as deferred revenue it's be DR Bank CR Liability on the balance sheet, while eventually once the revenue is booked it'd move from DR Liability to CR Retained Income, thus the age-old formula of Assets = Equity + liabilities remains in balance.

Huh? When does it hit the P&L then?

I’ve also never seen it referred to as Retained Income.

correct. I missed the first step of actually collecting the cash. So add DR cash CR liability at the beginning of my earlier post

Very interesting though, the money still not taken from my credit card - is there an issue?

Immediately or later, the P&L goes into retains income or accumulated income or whatever it's called, but basically an equity item. The P&L gets closed off against the balance sheet at the end of the year in a single summary transaction essentially, Vs the immediate effect of the transaction that occurs in assets and liabilities. The liabilities are then offset to close the general ledgers into the retained income. This is my semi-educated accounting interpretation

Another random theory: It could be that some marketing group within Iberia has a primary goal metric that is "bookings" or "booking value" and they were trying to hit a Q2 goal. It makes sense internally for the marketing team to get credit for bookings when they occur (especially for non-refundable bookings), regardless of when they actually are accounted for as revenue. How the accounting team let them get away with giving away so many miles is another question.
