  • Login problems: If you have trouble logging into the Iberia website, type in your number and password by hand instead of using autocomplete. For some people this fixes login issues.
  • Partner awards: Many flights on partners will not be available as one-way. You must redeem AA flights as a round trip for example
  • Cancellations: Iberia awards on AA cannot be cancelled.
Iberia Plus offer 9000 per booking 21/JUN to 24/JUN on iberia.com
Terms and conditions of the offer are to be found here in post 14.

I have official confirmation from Iberia that it's ok to reschedule award flights booked for promotion Avios:

We are sorry to inform you that according to the terms and conditions of our campaign, promotional Avios expired on December 1st, 2018 at 00:01 (local time in Spain).

Unfortunately, at this point, that is the reason why it is not possible to process your refund process, becuase no Avios can be refunded due to that they expired in December 1st, therefore we recommend you to keep your reservation or to change the date but not to request any refund. Keep in mind that our Iberia Plus customers had several channels to redeem the Avios before the established Avios expiration date.

We apologize the inconveniences this may have caused you.

The only problem with "official written confirmations from Iberia" is that they might just be the random reply of an agent, rather than an official position communicated to all CS agents.

But based on what we know about how IB+ changes award bookings, this reply does make sense.

Does anyone have any updates on this? Or any communication from Iberia that says we will / will not lose miles when flights are cancelled?

I too have a couple of flights which earned the 9k bonus which have been cancelled by Iberia and alternative dates offered are no good to me. They of course have offered refund but I would not do this if it would also take away the 9k bonus (even though already spent.....!)

Got a refund a month ago for 1 flight. No loss of pts and all my award rez are still working fine! YMMV of course though. And is it ethical? All up to you.

Does anyone have first hand experience about cancelling the flights booked with 90K avios and being refunded?

I think point + taxes are almost break even for the current deals going on in economy to MAD/BCN. This makes me think that I would be better off using these points locally on AA.

Hi team! So what do you think about this one?

I earned 54,000 avios from the June 2018, 9K promotion. I redeemed them before 1st Dec last year in two one-way redemptions. One, first, from MAD to a South American destination on IB (42,500 avios) which I want to keep. Another, subsequently, from South America to LHR on BA metal/IB flight number (30,000 avios including a number I topped up from my BAEC). I now want to cancel/refund this second flight.

1. Can I do this?
2. If so, will I get any of the avios back (by my reckoning I should be due at least 18,500) or will IB say the whole amount are forefeit under the special rules?
3. In which case is my only option to change the date?

Any thoughts greatly appreciated!

1. Do what?
2. The rules say you won't get any Avios back. If you do get a refund, it would be sheer luck due to their bad IT/workflow. But don't count on it.
3. Yes, date changes seem to be ok. You have to evaluate the risk for yourself.

I have read a great number of posts on this topic but am still unclear where I can read the full T & Cs for this promotion so I can answer for myself a query I have. Can anyone point me to them please?

My need is to find out what prospective loss I will have if I decide to change a redemption booking already made, where some 35% of the Avios used were the 90,000 that I made from the promotion, with the rest coming from a BAEC to Iberia transfer / top-up.

I want to change a MAD to UIO (Quito) redemption to a MAD to SCL (Santiago) one. I presume that there is no way to make this change without, in effect, an Avios refund being made prior to the replacement booking. If that is so, do I just lose the 90,000 promotional Avios I used, or more than that?
Incidentally, I have enough Avios to separately pay for the Santiago flight and so would not depend on any refund for the re-booking, but I can't see that that helps at all does it?

The terms are lacking, but the way I read this you would lose 90,000. However in practice we don't know if you'll actually lose them, especially if you ask for the cancellation and reticketing to SCL at the same time. Maybe they will consider that reasonable and allow it.

Terms and conditions

Special offer of an extra 9,000 Avios for each ticket purchased between 21 and 24 June 2018 (maximum of 90,000 promotional Avios per member) on iberia.com for a flight operated by Iberia, Iberia Express or Air Nostrum. The Avios will be added within 10 days of the purchase to the Iberia Plus account of all customers identified as members of the Iberia Plus programme during the purchase process.

If the customer requests a refund, either because it is permitted by the fare or for any other reason, the promotional Avios will be withdrawn from their account. The extra promotional Avios not redeemed by 1 December 2018 will be withdrawn from the customer's account. The redemption terms and conditions are subject to the general terms and conditions of the Iberia Plus programme.

For example, if a customer purchases tickets on Iberia.com for three people to fly from Seville to Madrid and two of the people are identified as Iberia Plus members during the purchase process, 9,000 Avios will be credited to both of these people within 10 days of the purchase. These two people must have redeemed at least 9,000 Avios by 1 December 2018, or this same amount of Avios will be withdrawn from their account.
