  • Login problems: If you have trouble logging into the Iberia website, type in your number and password by hand instead of using autocomplete. For some people this fixes login issues.
  • Partner awards: Many flights on partners will not be available as one-way. You must redeem AA flights as a round trip for example
  • Cancellations: Iberia awards on AA cannot be cancelled.

The tickets that gave me the 9k miles each had a material time change.

What are the risks of cancelling that ticket - am I jeopordizing the award tickets (which aren't until May)?
Would it be any different if I used the proceeds of the ticket towards another ticket.
Any difference in the risk before or after January 1?

I don't see why it would. The whole point of the offer was that you didn't have to actually take the booked flights.

The T&Cs of the promo made clear that cancellation of the paid tickets would result in forfeiture of the 9k Avios.

Changing the date / flight number on the same route should be fine, because you would keep the same PNR. But anything else and you would probably lose the 9k Avios.

It is legitimate to worry whether IB+ will cancel future award tickets to fix negative account balances. Unless you'd be looking at a substantial refund, I would prefer not to spend the next 5 months wondering whether my holiday flights would be cancelled at any moment...

Thanks for the crisp and specific reply. I agree, no point worrying as they were originally going to be throw away tickets.

Had a schedule change and superb IB Agent rerouted me on much better direct service LHR-IBZ today Very happy as it was a cheapo LHR-MAD-IBZ £70 special as part of the 90k promo haul.

but I donít have to actually fly those flights, do I. Just forfeit the fare and no show.

I booked cheapest flights I could find for myself and my partner during the promotion period. It took a bit of back and forth and emailing passport scans, but we each got the 90k Avios. I redeemed my and my partner's Avios back in September for LAX-MAD (J), MAD-BCN (J), BCN-MAD (Y), MAD-LAX (J). Had to transfer some BA Avios from both of our BA accounts to our IB accounts to have enough. We both have a few thousand left over. So far it all looks good.

Our stupid cheap flights have all had schedule changes, but I'm assuming that if I were to call and cancel because of that, the 90k Avios each would be clawed back.

I didnt get the avios form the promotion, they just didnt care about it and ignored my complaints by email. I did everything correctly and logged from my Iberia account.
I have print screens and all stuff documented.

So I went to a Lawyer and now Im suing Iberia Airlines and going to court in my city. Lets see if they are so careless about it in front of a Judge of law.

Cant wait for that, They are just about going to get some headshot there to learn how to deal with advertising, contracts , promotions and custumer care!

Seems like the right thing to do after Dec 1...
If I was Iberia, I would probably just grant you the 90k and remove them again immediately. ;-)

Which country are you in? Maybe you were denied, because it was only offered to residents of certain countries.

my country was part of the promotion indeed.

they just messed all up and did not care about fixing stuff and not even doing anything when points were claimed. This injuries so many
consumer laws and worldwide practicies one could write dozens of page with bad practices x consumer laws. thats what I did.
