  • Login problems: If you have trouble logging into the Iberia website, type in your number and password by hand instead of using autocomplete. For some people this fixes login issues.
  • Partner awards: Many flights on partners will not be available as one-way. You must redeem AA flights as a round trip for example
  • Cancellations: Iberia awards on AA cannot be cancelled.
Iberia Plus offer 9000 per booking 21/JUN to 24/JUN on iberia.com
Terms and conditions of the offer are to be found here in post 14.

Yep. I wouldn't mind not getting the points, just to get the popcorn out and watch everybody threaten to sue or call their credit card companies, only to be told that they bought plane tickets not Avios...

I am on my 4th bag of popcorn today.... Went to Costco and now have a new supply.
This might be more fun than dealing with the AZ fiasco.

Once points post, getting a reservation ticketed through IBs archaic system will be a miracle. The main page won't even load.

LOL exactly. I honestly very nearly got in on this but between not wanting to fight the Iberia website on my cell phone (I was travelling and didn't have a PC with me) along with the fact it got way too popular for its own good I sat it out.

i am not sure if you are being serious. The airlines can and do control the amount of seats they choose to release for award tickets. The most desirable routes will have very limited availability if past performance is any indicator of future results.

But even so, everyone due to their own schedules and availability (and origin/destination) won't be shopping for the same flights. Nearly a year in advance for an award anywhere in the OW network is pretty good, don't you think?

Just FYI:
I have flown Iberia several times before and got an old IB- account.
I bought only 1 ticket ARN-MAD on the 23 that says "issued in Spain" (no Swedish website)
Got no avios posted yet 9 days after booking.
Avalibility on the flights with LAN that I want to book with thoose points is still there (seen on both IB and BA).

0 fresh avios posted in my 11-year-old IBPlus account. I can log in.
I bought several flights from one of the elegible countries' websites.

I followed step by step and purchased 10 one-way tickets in the form of round trips.

I have every intention to complete all of them in the order they were structured.

I was logged in on the tickets purchase. I then went back the next day and added my IB account again.

Haven't checked my account yet, as i had just gotten back from a 4 country 6 day trip (Europe + Asia) involving 8 flights (half of them long haul), but if I don't get any points from IB, I won't go hysteria and threaten to chargeback or take Iberia to court.

I had a lot of fun booking those flights.

interesting points. so 100k+ accounts expect to get 90k avios to spend in a short time period and people don't think redemption availability will take a hit. some smart people here. ^

I don't understand the threats to do chargebacks either. You purchased flights, not avios. Also if you're not flying them, you basically have taken a seat from someone else who mightve actually wanted to fly for that fare and now has to pay more to see their families.

Regardless of how this plays out, this is reassuring:

"We kindly recommend you to contact our Customer Service Line at the phone number (+1) 800 772 4642 and request the total reimbursement of your tickets."

At first glance, it appears that if the Avios are withheld, tickets can be refunded. That's a pretty big deal and, based on the redemption opportunities, might not be a bad result given limited award availability.

Seems like they are handling this in a professional manner. Some poor souls are no doubt having a truly career-limiting experience right now. Let us beam good thoughts for their well-being!

I like I suppose most people only purchased the tickets after iberia confirmed that we will be receiving the points despite the fact that we have no intention of actually flying. Had Iberia not explicitly said that the points will post even if the flights are not taken it would be a different story but now that they let us all know that they couldn’t care less if we fly I see no reason to feel badly about booking 10 seats on a plane that I will be 4000 miles away from.

While I agree that it’s still early to be threatening chargeback I see no reason why Amex or any other credit card should not side with the consumer on this one. If the merchant doesn’t provide the product offered, the credit card should stand behind the customer. Isn’t that the reason why we pay annual fees for premium credit cards?
