  • Login problems: If you have trouble logging into the Iberia website, type in your number and password by hand instead of using autocomplete. For some people this fixes login issues.
  • Partner awards: Many flights on partners will not be available as one-way. You must redeem AA flights as a round trip for example
  • Cancellations: Iberia awards on AA cannot be cancelled.

We are in Spain in August and I was about to pull the trigger on IB flights, more expensive than LCCs, so this is a nice promo to take the sting out of the fact that MAH-PMI is $100 the day we need to fly it and PMI-MAD is even slightly more.

A few things I found
(1) IB's web technologies suck. I had challenges entering a credit card at checkout, got a country doesnt meet credit card type error for all my cards. I went and entered it into my profile and that worked.
(2) Tried to purchase and got a window saying in process but it never did. Tried Mozilla browser and that works well now.
(3) If you have 2-11 years olds, just sign them up for an adult account and use year 2000 for birthdate. Use actual birthdate in booking, their system does't check for this and will still issue a child fare for an IB Plus account that is an adult. I've done this on other airlines with success.

Question, presumably once the points post in 10 days we can swap out another FF #?

Booking 10x SDR-MAD for June 2019 went through flawlessly.
Let's gamble!
The promo landing page only lets me book out 330 days, so it goes to mid May 2019. How did you book for June? Using the main site search or going via the promo page?

Nothing in T&Cs state that points will be revoked if you switch your FF number after the Avios is credited, however, I would exercise some caution and perhaps do it at the airport/before check in to avoid any potential risk, if any present.

"Special offer of an extra 9,000 Avios for each ticket purchased between 21 and 24 June 2018 (maximum of 90,000 promotional Avios per member) on iberia.com for a flight operated by Iberia, Iberia Express or Air Nostrum. "

The T&C are pretty clear. If Iberia choose not to credit the Avios - no idea what they will do to be honest - on what grounds are you challenging the transaction exactly? You have an ticket, and you haven't bought via the website. Might be some mileage in challenging via distance selling regs but I can't help feeling you'd need to cancel now, pay the £15, and try to claim that back rather than refusing the cancellation offer. Cooling off is about cooling off, not having your cake and eating it.

IB have about a week to figure out what to do if this has backfired before having to credit Avios. I would think that applying strict T&Cs is an obvious thing to do, and there will probably be records about where bookings originated. So a quick line of code to exclude app made bookings and you're shafted.

Surely the Avios will only be credited if you book on the website via the special 9000 Avios link advertised on the homepage. This is the only way I can think of that IB can have people actively opting in to the promo and track them. If they give it to any old booking made on the website or app they are giving miles away to people who might not even know about the promo.

Terms do not state that you have to use the special link to book... "iberia.com" is not https://www.iberia.com/gb/offer/iber...rip-with-avios

I'm in with 10 MAD-SVQ one-ways, with a newly created Iberia Plus account, so now let's see how this all plays out.

In the meantime, does anyone know how you book award flights originating from Australia or do you need to call up?

Created an Iberia Plus account and made ten $35 bookings on Friday. When I checked them on iberia.com today, my Iberia Plus number wasn't showing up (72 hour issue or whatever). And I couldn't add my account number through iberia.com. What worked for me was to go to ba.com and enter my number for each flight individually. Took about 15 minutes. Immediately my Iberia Plus number attached to each of my flights on iberia.com.

So what? You've never heard of a promo that you don't need to sign up for? The number of people who will luck into 9,000 Avios will likely be dwarfed by the number who knowingly receive 90,000.

True, but wondering what you can do if IB uses this as an easy way out not to award the bonus Avios? I don't think a CC dispute will be successful, because technically you received what you paid for (i.e. flight tickets). Just playing devil's advocate here.

No, you received part of what you paid for (i.e. flight tickets, but not Avios points). The promise of the Avios and the advertisements were material inducements to consumers to buy the tickets. Failure to provide those Avios would at a minimum constitute a breach of the agreement, and I would expect a CC company to side with its customer and void the purchase. At worst (if Iberia never intended to provide the Avios) it would constitute fraud.

Lots of hand wringing here, but the most likely explanation is that Iberia knows exactly what it is doing and made a calculated determination that the infusion of cash outweighs the cost of the time and redemption limited points.

Ok, just a thought in the context of the EU's insistence since last month that we have to opt in to everything! Hopefuly all will be ok however booked.

As no-one knows what Iberia will or won't do, it's futile to speculate. But as the inducement to purchase requires you to purchase via Iberia.com and it would presumably be a big enough deal for Iberia to argue the toss, I doubt the CC company would be quite so willing to void the transactions as you think. The App doesn't mention the promo, so I can't see it's arguable the offer is part of the purchase.

Correct, the T&C state that "an extra 9,000 Avios for each ticket purchased between 21 and 24 June 2018 (maximum of 90,000 promotional Avios per member) on iberia.com." It does not mention you have to book through a specific link. My comment was more directed to those who booked on the iberia.com homepage, but not through the input mask displayed on the promotion page. (Further upthread someone mentioned that an IB rep said only bookings made through the specific link were eligible for the bonus Avios.)
