  • Login problems: If you have trouble logging into the Iberia website, type in your number and password by hand instead of using autocomplete. For some people this fixes login issues.
  • Partner awards: Many flights on partners will not be available as one-way. You must redeem AA flights as a round trip for example
  • Cancellations: Iberia awards on AA cannot be cancelled.
Iberia Plus offer 9000 per booking 21/JUN to 24/JUN on iberia.com
Terms and conditions of the offer are to be found here in post 14.

Another data point.

Cancelled a MAD - JFK business class ticket last Friday. Miles (all from promo) went back into account today.

Its certainly starting to look like the IT isn’t advanced enough to distinguish as to where the miles originally came from.

I used this to redeem flights from Madrid-Santiago (Chile) and Buenos Aires-Madrid-London in Business Class over the Easter and first May Bank holidays (Madrid-London in Economy given I thought I should try to save a bit)
Had a fantastic time hiking in both Chilean and Argentinian Patagonia as well as spending some time in Santiago and Buenos Aires.

Given this wonderful Iberia promotion, total cost of buying the Iberia business class flights plus the internal flights in South America came out to be around £520.
Interestingly, on the way back, the Buenos Aires leg was delayed and we missed the connection from Madrid to London. Given it was the bank holiday, all remaining flights back to London were complete full and Iberia could only put us on the next morning's flight. So we got put up at a nice hotel for the evening and I even managed to meet a friend in Madrid for dinner.

What this also meant was that EU261 compensation kicked in! After chasing Iberia for some time to get it (took more than 2 months!), finally the EUR600 came - meaning effectively the flights were FREE!
So grateful for this amazing opportunity!

Stunning photos, BrotherLehman! Thank you for sharing!

Adding another data point: I recently cancelled my IB award due to an IB schedule change. The taxes and avios were refunded within 4 days.

It's nice to see somebody happy about this promotion, rather than complain about missing Avios or negative account balances...

But it is a pet peeve of mine that airlines promote destinations such as Santiago and Buenos Aires with photos of natural wonders that are many hundreds of miles away (and require another flight). In distance terms, it's like using a photo of the Eiffel Tower to promote flights to Madrid...

Nice to see people having their Avios back, I have three scenarios
1) 1 J ticket issued in my account (-38,500 after 1st December) - this had minimal schedule chances like 10min, I won’t be able to flight this ticket, i haven’t tried to ring them yet, trying to postpone to 2020 ( issued 20/11/18)
a) If I have a medical certificate would Iberia push the date?
b) try to cancel and rebook same day?
c) try some lawful thing about rights etc? They delayed credit etc....
d) there is anyway to delete my previous IBPlus account? I already have another one that I am using and don’t want to mess with...

2) Second ticket account have some Avios there - online shopping basically - I’ll try to cancel and ask for refund 60k back to my account. Any tips? Spanish speakers have more success? I could ask a friend to call then to figure it out

Thanks

Your only option is to change dates (max. 1 year from ticket issue) and keep the exact same original-destination combination. You may have to pay the change fee.

Anything else will be a reward cancellation scenario and your negative balance will suck up the Avios refund when it arrives a few days later. Try to have your refund sent to a new IB+ account and you will be shut down.

I have MAD-TYO for november (59k avios) but want to move to april (89k). There were two time changes and the flight is now 30 mins earlier (not why I'm cancelling though)
This should be straight forward change + fee, right? Or will I also have to pay the difference in pts?
Or will they return of points and then I have to re-issue? Asking because I have a neg balance

i think the best you can hope for is they waive the €25 fee (due to time change) and charge the additional 30,000 points.

In reality, I think they will charge you both I’m afraid.

Because you have a negative balance, you will be unable to change to a peak date. (because you need to pay more Avios) Presumably you are unwilling to make whole your negative balance and add even more Avios.

Your best bet is to pay the fee, change to another off-peak date and hope that the agent doesn't give you a hard time about your negative balance.

Happy to report it worked, but only because I found a flight in April that cost 59k avios as well.
Charged me $25e because it was voluntary...had I switched to two days after or before I wouldnt have to pay.
Called in Spanish line- she was pleasant. I had to do it to two reservations and she was efficient and did it all in one shot and helped me pick seats.
When calling, I had to specify "iberia plus" to the bot. I first called to the regular booking line and she couldnt help me.
No mention of points refund at all or the promotion.

perfect. Sounds like Iberia plus did exactly what they should, and you were entitled to... which for most companies wouldn’t be noteworthy. However, for those experienced in dealing with Iberia customer services will know, getting what you are entitled to is far certain.

Happy you got it sorted and thanks for coming back with an update.

Nice to hear
I tried my lucky yesterday. Brazilian service line... She said I couldn't change for the dates that i wanted, said as my account was -38.500 avios once they're refunded automatically will be taken - which is true... Also noticed she wasn't tooo helpful...
I heard some had better luck with Spanish line... I will have to ask to a friend to call? maybe.....

I believe @ga8briel issued his ticket in 2018 and it was valid to complete his travel by December this year... so far he was able to extend his original booking for over a year...
