  • Login problems: If you have trouble logging into the Iberia website, type in your number and password by hand instead of using autocomplete. For some people this fixes login issues.
  • Partner awards: Many flights on partners will not be available as one-way. You must redeem AA flights as a round trip for example
  • Cancellations: Iberia awards on AA cannot be cancelled.
Iberia Plus offer 9000 per booking 21/JUN to 24/JUN on iberia.com

I have 2 Avios redemption on AA coming up for SEA-SFO-SEA. There were slight involuntary changes by a few minutes to the schedule. Also I needed to reschedule for sometime later in the year. Called, and after trying several options, the agent initiated the refund of Avios and money. However, he mentioned that if the Avios were part of the 90000 promotional Avios, the Refund dept will not process it. Fingers crossed.

Glad to report my booking was successfully cancelled. I was refunded the Avios (46000), still waiting for the $60 in taxes to be refunded. Already moved the Avios to BA. I called 1-800-772-4642.

I was asked if this was part of the 90000 redemption, which I said 'no' to. The agent then forwarded it to the "Refund Dept", and mentioned that if these were not part of the promotional Avios, only then it will be refunded. I took my chance and got the Avios refunded! I had a couple of minor 2-5 minutes involuntary changes to my flight, which seemed to help during the conversation. Good luck!

Wondering if anyone who were no-shows for a paid Iberia flight bought to get the 9000 points then had their award flight booked with those points not honored by Iberia as a result?

I no-showed for all and got all the points. It’s written in the terms and conditions. You’ll be fine.

Thanks, but I'm actually not asking about getting the points, but am wondering about the award ticket being honored on the day of the flight.

I agree in thinking that Iberia will probably honor the award ticket even after being a no-show on the paid flight.

But businesses sometimes behave dishonorably, so I'm just asking if anyone so far took their award flight successfully in spite of being a no-show on a paid flight.

I don’t think you need to worry- they are separate transactions- I.e. your credit of the 9000 then fed into a totally different ticket number... and again, it was in the T&C that you couldn’t *cancel* but no mention of no-shows. So I wouldn’t worry at all on any front.

Replied on their email today. Waiting for a response. Does anyone have success resetting their balance to 0 after using the miles past 01/12 (not transfers).
Update on this. Iberia reset my account from -90k to -39k which is what I was expecting. I currently have 39k points sitting in BA. I will move back to Iberia when I need to use or kick the account to the curb.

Just completed my trip to Costa Rica using the 90k miles, this was somewhere I would never have gone and I am pleased to say it was amazing I now have a solitary 200 miles left in my IB account. The whole process of getting the 90k was a bit challenging but not that hard bearing in mind that we ended up with J class seats for around £450 each.

What if it was a routing change from the same origin to destination. I have a MAD-BOS booked but looking to make a date change but the date change will route me from MAD-BCN-BOS. The agent he can do that but we didn't talk about the 90k promo and if it has any impact to it.
Should I be safe if I make this change?

First of all, you may or may not want to fly Level, especially in Economy.

Second, if you are changing dates because of an Iberia schedule change or something, then you should be fine.

If the agent needs to cancel and rebook, you are at risk. Because an award cancellation involves a lag of a few days between cancellation and getting your Avios back, I'd be surprised if the agent can do it seamlessly. He/she would probably use your existing Avios for the new booking and let the cancelled Avios return in due course - but those returning Avios could easily be taken away at any time.

Thanks for your help. I didn't even notice the Level flight and certainly dont want to fly on it!
There is another routing on BA via LHR (MAD-LHR-BOS) which would be better but I'll ask the agent if they will be cancelling and rebooking and if so, I wont' bother doing the change.

BA will cost you substantially more in fuel surcharge. I wouldn't bother...

I cancelled a flight booked using Avios from the 90k after a schedule change and have left the returned Avios in my IB account for now as I wouldn’t want the account to go negative if I transferred them to BA. However I guess they may be laundered now ? So likely little risk?

Sharing a few 'odd' data points. I have 2 round trips booked as 4 separate one-ways, majority of the miles coming from the 90k promo. On one trip, the agent told me that I could not move dates to 2020, and my best recourse was to cancel the ticket and just refund the miles (with minor fees), which I did. Those miles got returned within 7 days to my account, which I then used to make new reservations for 2020 (still via the Iberia site); hopefully the reservations stick. On the 2nd ticket, I was able to move dates to May 2020, even though the ticketing date was Sep 2018. It was a matter of HUACA; maybe the agent was junior or they are just loose with their rules. No mention of the 90k promotion in any of the calls.

I do think it is truly YMMV with Iberia.

How long did it take to get your Avios back? I just had to request a refund of my ticket( after being hungup on twice by their great customer service) since they won't make changes to routing on a reward ticket, which in itself makes no sense to me why they don't allow changes.
I'm hoping to get the refund soon so I can book the ticket thats available at non peak rate

I got my miles back , I had to call them and it took 5 minutes. Any guess on how long I can keep these miles for?
