- Login problems: If you have trouble logging into the Iberia website, type in your number and password by hand instead of using autocomplete. For some people this fixes login issues.
- Partner awards: Many flights on partners will not be available as one-way. You must redeem AA flights as a round trip for example
- Cancellations: Iberia awards on AA cannot be cancelled.

Hola everyone from Barcelona! Just wanted to add an interesting data point to the discussion--Iberia emailed me the boilerplate "you booked invalid tickets, we're refunding your money" e-mail back in the fall. Filed a US DOT report, never heard back, tickets were cancelled, money refunded, and 90k Avios magically showed up in my account and stayed there. Booked ORD-MAD-BCN and return (return in J) and here I am!

I had booked a RT trip with 90k promotional avios + 12k I transferred. I ended up cancelling due to boring real life problems expecting to lose my promotional avios but at least recoup about $300 in taxes after the cancellation fee. I received the $300 and all 102k avios back. Agent did not mention anything about the promotion at all. I remember reading at some point that getting avios refunded was a separate step and took some time after cancelling but I got them with no hassle 3 days after I called. My avios activity page is a total mess but I'm not going to question it.

Iberia cancelled flight.
Hoping for some advice.
Have just noticed that my LAX-MAD flight booked using promo Avios has been cancelled and I have been rebooked on the following days flight.
This is isn’t going to work for me so looking at what I might reasonably expect from Iberia..
if i take the refund, will I keep the miles (that would otherwise have expired)?
can I ask to be put on the BA service to LHR? My full booking is LAX-MAD-LHR all on same PNR?

1st call - agent said no other option available (accept flight the following day or refund) and if I cancel for refund there is no refund of promotional Avios. I pushed her about the fact that it seemed unfair that i fulfilled all criteria for promotion and yet that due to their cancellation I lose everything. She insisted that flights are cancelled for many reasons beyond their control such as weather and that Iberia is not responsible..... i pointed out it was unlikely to be weather as the flight is 6 months from now and that the cancellation is far more likely to have to have been well within iberia’s Control. Anyway, was clearly a losing battle so I thanked her for her time and hung up.
2nd call - agent immediately offered me the three BA services direct to London and apologised for the inconvenience.
Its crazy how the standard of service is so contrasting with iberia but I am now happy as I avoid an extra connection in Madrid.
Just a shame I couldn’t get AA as an option!! 😬

I have 2 Avios redemption on AA coming up for SEA-SFO-SEA. There were slight involuntary changes by a few minutes to the schedule. Also I needed to reschedule for sometime later in the year. Called, and after trying several options, the agent initiated the refund of Avios and money. However, he mentioned that if the Avios were part of the 90000 promotional Avios, the Refund dept will not process it. Fingers crossed.

Very interesting. How many days did it take from the time you were on the phone to the Avios being refunded to your account? And when was your reward flight scheduled for?
I have 2 Avios redemption on AA coming up for SEA-SFO-SEA. There were slight involuntary changes by a few minutes to the schedule. Also I needed to reschedule for sometime later in the year. Called, and after trying several options, the agent initiated the refund of Avios and money. I initially called them on 26th April to cancel 2 bookings - one for 3rd May and another one for 4th May. The agent said Avios would be refunded in 3 working days and taxes in 30 days (still waiting for these).
Yesterday morning I called back and they refunded the Avios instantly. As soon as I logged off of my Iberia account and logged back on I could see the balance updated.
BTW neither they or I mentioned last year's promotion at any moment.

when it takes about a week to get your Avios back - that sounds like a fairly manual process !!
