  • Login problems: If you have trouble logging into the Iberia website, type in your number and password by hand instead of using autocomplete. For some people this fixes login issues.
  • Partner awards: Many flights on partners will not be available as one-way. You must redeem AA flights as a round trip for example
  • Cancellations: Iberia awards on AA cannot be cancelled.
Iberia Plus offer 9000 per booking 21/JUN to 24/JUN on iberia.com

this makes me nervous...

Hi
I would like to know if I can transfer all my 90000 miles to BA and use it at later date .
Is there a chance to loose my miles ? should I just book a ticket via IB plus ?
I can't find the answer.
Thanks for your reply

Nobody knows the answer to this, if you read this very thread. It's a gamble for all sides involved. The only thing that appears to be certain is that if you leave the miles in your IB account and do nothing, they will zero them out.

At first you couldn't transfer miles to BA. Then it was allowed after a big fuss in a couple of UK newspapers. But the T&Cs are pretty clear, so moving the 90K Avios to BA might not work as a way of protecting them from expiry.

Spending them in IB+ before the end of the month is the only way to be sure you won't lose them.

Where it gets muddy is when I transferred them to BA and then spent them. IB can't book JL one ways, BA can, so I got the miles, and booked JL oneways. They're gone technically, so now what?

I spent a chunk of my IB Avios, then spent another chunk but cancelled the Avios booking. I transferred the balance in a couple of transactions, first direct to BA and then to BA via Avios.

Since the transfer I reckon that I have probably (although I am no longer sure) spent as many Avios on my BA account as were transferred, although as I had a very large pre-existing balance who is to say which were spent (first in first out, last in first out ??).

In any event, I have not received the warning e-mail. I am not sure what any of that means ......

I'm trying to redeem CX - HKG-TPE-HKG / HKG-BKK-HKG / HKG-SIN-HKG / HKG-Japan-HKG

I'm seeing excellent availability on BA site.
Zero availability on the same flights on IB site.

Are chances better if I call?

Last edited by Psychiatrist; Nov 12, 2018 at 3:21 am Reason: adding -HKG to each destination so that you know I'm redeeming a round trip ticket.

No.
And if you had read only one article on IB Plus, or at least a tiny bit on this forum, you would have learned that IB does NOT allow one-way awards on partners.

I'm referring to round trip award flights, not one-way. Just listing the destinations without being overly repetitive.

Edited my post to show HKG-TPE-HKG / HKG-BKK-HKG / HKG-SIN-HKG / HKG-Japan-HKG

We were a group of 8 people who went all in on this promotion (received 720k Avios).
Only 3 of us got the email.

Account 1 (old account): All Avios spent => no email
Account 2 (old account): All Avios spent => no email
Account 3 (new account): Spent 89,050 Avios, bought some more Avios through Groupon, then refunded some tickets, now many thousand Avios left to spend => no email
Account 4 (new account): Few thousand Avios left => email received
Account 5 (old account): All Avios spent => no email
Account 6 (new account): Spent 89,050 Avios, bought some more Avios through Groupon, then refunded some tickets, now many thousand Avios left to spend => no email
Account 7 (new account): Few thousand Avios left => email received
Account 8 (new account): Few thousand Avios left => email received

This is just a very, very wild guess, but one conclusion from this could be that they can correctly track redemptions, but unable to connect refunds to this.
So if you have absolutely no idea what to redeem your Avios for, I would at least try to redeem for something on IB/BA metal and than cancel and ask for a refund (not sure whether it's better to request the refund before or after Dec 1).

Ok, my apologies then.
My experience is that their callcenter doesn't have access to more award space, but I guess it won't hurt to call.
Just be prepared that it's one of the worst callcenters in the whole industry, by far.

Thanks for this info. I have one old account, got 90,000 from the promo. Transferred more from BA, spent them all but had to cancel and refund one.

I was concerned my balance might get wiped out, total spend is still over the 90,000 though.

No email received, I'm thinking the balance is safe. Which seems fair, I spent more than the bonus.

Many thanks - I called and surprisingly the availability was good.

Booked HKG-NRT-HKG in October 2019.

IB website showed zero availability on CX
IB call centre showed good availability and I was able to complete the booking over the phone

Their computer systems are slow though ... took a long time to display the flights and to calculate the Avios needed
But I was able to get the award issued, so I'm happy!
(the call took 30 minutes...)
