- Login problems: If you have trouble logging into the Iberia website, type in your number and password by hand instead of using autocomplete. For some people this fixes login issues.
- Partner awards: Many flights on partners will not be available as one-way. You must redeem AA flights as a round trip for example
- Cancellations: Iberia awards on AA cannot be cancelled.

When a company demand that I send a SCAN of my passport data page to them, over an unencrypted transport protocol, for them to store/do with as they wish, I have EVERY right (by law) to know what they need it for, how they're going to use it, and when it will be deleted.
That's nothing to do with "entitlement", that's law, and everyone's rights as an EU citizen as of May 2018.
Whether you agree with that is your own problem - but rather than a bad attempt at patronising those who maybe DO have more "influence, or importance" (your words) than you, without knowing their background - maybe stick to that old rule of "if you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything at all".

i doubt people who have great importance to iberia would care THIS strongly about just mere 90k avios. I mean, wouldn’t people who have great importance to Iberia already have an Iberia account to begin with?
you kept mentioning the law. Iberia’s general T&C already has a catch all to allow them to deny avios due to improper use of an account. I doubt any consumer would win this case in court.
"The Programme reserves the right to recall your card, cancel your account and hold you responsible if you make improper or fraudulent use of the Programme or do not comply with the rules and procedures contained in these General Conditions."

While, in part, I agree with the possibility that IB could use loopholes to weasel out of the offer THEY published, that action (and their performance since the offer closed) says to me they’re not a company built on principles or service.
Then again, who is, these days - I guess.

I suggest somebody create a second thread for those want to keep insulting each other and fight about whether Iberia or "greedy" fliers are to blame for this mess.
Then the rest of us can stay in this thread and exchange datapoints.

My “new account” followed the same process as others: no credit, request for passport (sent) and tickets (sent), no further communication. No response to any emails or twitter messages since
So, I took up the GDPR route (and will continue to do so regardless, as I want reassurance that my passport has been removed permanently and securely from their systems). I asked for copies of every single piece of data and communication held relating to me personally, and sent that to their official “data controller”.
That, and the clear breach of their own terms and conditions for the offer was also then detailed and sent to three senior email addresses this morning pointing out that I would take things further if no response within 2 working days.
This afternoon - all bonus points credited, with no communication whatsoever.
Let’s see what they say in writing by my deadline...

Is the "fear" for IB that they've somehow broken GDPR by asking for or requiring the scan of passport to be sent?
Or is it more an administrative fear--requiring the passport scans may not run afoul of GDPR--but as corollary if everybody starts demanding documentation on how their info was handled IB may have a massive problem in time and energy to respond to these requests (which they may be required to do by GDPR)?
Thanks.

I'm curious, not being a EU citizen...the GDPR is a bit foreign (pun!) to me. While I can Google it and understand it is generally an EU law on data collection and privacy...I'm wondering in layman's terms what is the implication here to leverage IB?

As for the GDPR, I can't speak for others. I may be a way of getting what information IB has beyond the information they have from the transaction and communications -- perhaps free discovery from the legal perspective. In reality, I believe if the data people realize they have a serious GDPR problem, IB might be more inclined to comply with their representations to avoid fighting on two fronts. I don't view it as harassment or an attempt to create an administrative burden but I'm not a fan of someone having a scan of my passport -- particularly a company that appears to have weak IT infrastructure since their website crashes regularly. If they can't keep a consumer facing revenue generating portion of their business functional, that suggests their security is even weaker.
Now ... as a US citizen/resident, do I have the right to request info on me maintained by a European company??? Hmmm.

They sent them to give more attention to their accounts since they hadn't received their avios within the promised 10 day period. It obviously worked. Those that emailed company officials, made noise on social media, and contacted DOT or other regulators got attention.

Last night, got this email (in Spanish and English, pasting english only):
"

We apologize for not having been able to answer your request so far, as we have had a large number of inquiries over the last week.
We are doing our best efforts to answer all of them within the shortest delay.
Thank you fou your understanding. Please receive our warmest regards.

In general, it is certainly a poor privacy practice to request passports via an unencrypted email system. I imagine hackers are hacking away at IB's system because there are 20,000 passports in the email system. I covered up my passport number in the scan I sent them.
