  • Login problems: If you have trouble logging into the Iberia website, type in your number and password by hand instead of using autocomplete. For some people this fixes login issues.
  • Partner awards: Many flights on partners will not be available as one-way. You must redeem AA flights as a round trip for example
  • Cancellations: Iberia awards on AA cannot be cancelled.
Iberia Plus offer 9000 per booking 21/JUN to 24/JUN on iberia.com

US resident, bought through the UK site for cash back earning purposes though. I did use my credit card, the same one used for my own reservations under my own Iberia account. I suppose either could be why they were cancelled, but would need others to chime in to see if there are any consistencies.

No other contact from Iberia beyond the initial confirmation emails.

@jamieraedouglass how about you?

Will do a charge back in a few days if I don't hear from them.
I got the proper email response back when I submitted my initial email. Haven't heard anything since. I did call in the next day and they said to submit everything that I had already sent and to expect a response in 5 days. I'm holding tight for the moment.

I never said that was my conclusion, I am just hoping that is why I haven't heard anything right now we have heard zero word about anyone who had a locked account getting points. Unless they are going to blanket deny everyone who had a new account (which is a legitimate possibility) the other possibility is that they are going to deposit everyone's points who was not denied at one time (kind of what they did with the older accounts) and right now they are only sending out disqualification emails.

Could be less likely but I can hope, my redemption requires both me and my wife to use our full 90,000... though i am making backup plans if we only have 90,000 to spend so I clearly am not confident.

Depending on how much you enjoy traveling with your wife, you could also redeem miles from a different program (AA comes to mind) or just buy the second ticket.

At this point, it's a waiting game.

Iberia risks losing quite a bit here beyond any sort of monetary loses they will incur with this promo.

If a company clearly and emphatically states multiple times it will do X (9,000 Avios per flight, on one-way flights, no requirement to fly the tickets booked) then any customer that participated should be entitled to the full AVIOS per their own terms. As a supplier, vendor, partner, investor, end user or even employee - if reflects very poorly on Iberia if they refuse to honor their contracts - doesn't matter who it's with. End of story. Loss of good will is something that is hard to quantify, and easy to lose.

I'm still waiting but based on reports to date, they don't seem to care about loss of goodwill with new customers. And, I'm a multi-year EXP so you'd think that might be something you would count as valuable good will. My GF and family members who purchased tickets in reliance on the promotion and public statements are all AA Plats.

Was pretty relieved to see Iberia credited those with existing accounts without much fuss. But afraid at this point the wave of rejection due to "inconsistencies" may undo much of the "props" they earned in the community.

Seems to me they're trying to deny new accounts under any pretense now, but at least refunds are on the table...let's wait and see.

I flew with them a couple times in the past while in Europe but awarded the points to AA. Nowadays I always create an account when a purchase a plane ticket even if I don't want my miles with that specific airline because it's easier to track later but back then I just didn't care for that. Only if I knew haha

What Iberia will do and what they *should* do are two very different things unfortunately. There are plenty of companies that have made business decisions that help their bottom line in the short term but lead to their eventual demise in the long. This won't sink Iberia as an isolated case study, but given the visibility and reach it has created - it will certainly have long term impact on their brand, reputation, and ability to negotiate contracts in good faith at some level. One way or another.

It'll be interesting to see how it plays out - bet it makes a great case study for biz school in the future!

Some data points:

Account 1 (mine)- opened ~1 year ago. Booked 10 tix. No avios posted, no email, absolutely no communication whatsoever.
Account 2 (family member)- opened on the Friday of the promotion. Booked 10 tickets the next day (after 24 hours). Account was subsequently locked. Sent in passport + ticket PDFs, then got a "correct response" email. Just hours ago, I got 10 automatic refund emails. No communication regarding the process, just 10 automatic cancellations and refund receipts.
Account 3 (family member)- account opened Saturday of promotion. Booked 10 tickets an hour after opening account. Account was also locked. Sent in passport + ticket PDFs, got a "correct response" email. No communication since.

Award space I was eyeing is drying up, so I actually would not mind just having all the tickets refunded automatically so I don't have to spend any more time on this.

>>>Addendum: I never got a "inconsistent booking" etc email. The charges have long posted to my credit cards. But looking at the receipts, it shows:

DEAR CUSTOMER, RIR
YOUR RESERVATION COULD NOT BE PROCESSED RIR
SO THERE WILL NOT BE ANY CHARGE IN THE CREDIT CARD USED. RIR
SORRY FOR THE INCONVENIENCE. RIR

Considering how systematic everyone was in booking these 10 tickets, one could argue that if booked from a USA point-of-sale, filing 10 DOT complaints may be worthwhile if Iberia is in fact cancelling valid tickets without permission. Some will say that's vindictive, but Iberia needs to know that this is not okay.
