IB stoping Malabo, E.G.

Iberia anuncia la suspensión de vuelos a Guinea Ecuatorial Gaceta de Guinea

My cousin alerted me to this from another forum. Seems IB is cutting Malabo or "suspending" it for now.

Frequent market from Houston for energy traffic but not on IB. Is there any colonial legacy to the route? (I'd presume yes.)

Yes of course, but it's no guarantee of perennity when the country sinks too low. Look at BA not serving Harare in Zimbabwe for decades now...

Sorry if I was not clear. I realise there is not enough traffic to sustain the route...thus it is being cut. I was more curious if any of the colonial links drove traffic since the energy business does not for Iberia relative to other carriers on the route. Is there any other main industry other than energy driving traffic? I know a lot of people in the energy business that go there though I have never been myself. I did have occasion to visit their consulate in Houston and it was quite the shrine to their president...

Yes there are colonial links. E.G. was a Spanish colony.

But, no, I have no idea how IB managed to keep the route going for so long.
