Based upon requests, this is now a wiki - please feel free to edit - but please only post the suite that you are confirmed into and not what you ultimately get (eg PH Vendome books into Park Suite but many ultimately get a Park Executive Suite). I'll start with that one for formatting example - I will try to do refinements to this when I have some time later.

To check the room type you booked into, you may use Hyatt E-Concierge:

1. Hyatt Hotel Canberra - a Park Hyatt Hotel (Canberra, Australia).
2. Park suite king.
3. About 80 square metres.
4. Two entirely separate hotels rooms connected by an interconnecting door. One bedroom, two bathrooms.
5. B+. I wasn't thrilled with this suite. To me, two rooms that become interconnecting does not a suite make. Take that part out, though, and it's very nice. The second room has a pull-down bed (that comes out of the wall) that I also found tacky but it serves a purpose and was comfortable. The rooms are large and the bathrooms (two full size, although one without a separate tub) are very big.
6. It's a beautiful hotel with decent rooms and solid staff.

Hi,

Just used a Diamond Suite upgrade for the Grand Hyatt Hong Kong for December.

They booked me into an "Executive Room", which is different from the one mentioned in the Wiki. Has anybody had recent experience using a DSU at this property and what room it was booked into?

Thanks

1. Grand Hyatt Istanbul, Turkey
2. Grand Suite King
3. 80 sqm
4. 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom
5. Yes. A+
6. I wouldn't say this hotel's location is outstanding but it isn't bad, either. It's just a few minutes walk to Taksim Square and the associated metro station. From the Square there are a number of shops off side strips. It was a great suite. Very comfortable and very well appointed.

A new Diamond member here (thanks to the Diamond Challenge) and some confusion arises over the usage of the Suite Upgrade Award.

I called up the Hyatt Gold Passport hotline at least twice and I received different answers:
1. The agent said that the Suite Upgrade is only available for rates in which the Suite room is showing up. Under the lowest paid rate (Weekday Saver Rate), only the Deluxe Twin room is available for booking and I cannot use this rate (according to the agent) to secure the Suite Upgrade. However, under a higher rate (Weekday Retreat Rate), both the Deluxe Twin and Suites are available, so, the agent advised me to use the Suite Upgrade under this higher paid rate.

2. I called up again just 10 mins ago and a different agent was insistent that the Suite Upgrade can only be used for Best Available Rate (which is even higher than the Weekday Retreat Rate I was booked under).

So, which one is actually correct?????

Here is the terms & conditions from their website:
Suite award is valid for reservations booked between 3/1/2011 to 2/29/2012 at participating Hyatt hotels and resorts where suite accommodations are available, and may be applied to future reservations. In the event a Suite award is redeemed for stay dates beyond expiration date and reservation is cancelled after expiration date, the Suite award will be forfeited. Upgrade must be requested and redeemed at time of reservation and is subject to availability. Upgrade confirmation will be provided at time of reservation. A complimentary suite upgrade is only valid on paid stays/nights, when paying an Eligible Rate for a maximum of 7 consecutive nights. Member must call 800.400.2261 or their nearest worldwide reservation center to redeem upgrade award. Upgrade awards are not available at Hyatt Regency Kyoto, Hyatt Regency Paris-Madeleine, Park Hyatt Sydney and Park Hyatt Beaver Creek Resort, Hyatt Place, Hyatt Summerfield Suites or Hyatt Residence Group resorts. For purposes of this award, a suite provides for one-bedroom accommodations. Suite upgrade award is not valid toward Specialty, Premier, Presidential or Diplomatic Suites. Award is not transferable, negotiable or redeemable for cash or other substitutions. Credit will not be issued for unused upgrade awards. Guest is responsible for all charges exclusive of awards. There are limited numbers of suites available at each property. Hyatt reserves the right to alter or withdraw this program at any time without notice. Hyatt Hotels & Resorts™ encompasses hotels managed, franchised or leased by subsidiaries and affiliates of Global Hyatt Corporation. The trademarks Hyatt™, Hyatt Hotels & Resorts™, Park Hyatt™, Andaz™, Grand Hyatt™, Hyatt Regency™, Hyatt Place™, Hyatt Summerfield Suites™, Hyatt Residence Group™, Hyatt Gold Passport™, and related marks are trademarks of Hyatt Corporation. © 2014 Hyatt Corporation. All rights reserved.

....ignore the old dates above, the key phrase is "eligible rate". Also, "limited number of suites available". In the past, I have used a DSU certificate on Points&Cash reservation and also with My Elite Rate rooms. Really depends on suites allocated to be used at each property for DSU. Book far in advance I the key, but depends on the property.

Milesbuzz, Diamond Suite Upgrades are basically usable on any non-award booking , even Cash and Points. Just book the basic room and then call Diamond Line and say you want to apply a suite upgrade. Cheers.

GH San Francisco still confirms into the Executive Suite. Looks like two previously connecting rooms modified, but a very nice setup nonetheless. Having two bathrooms is kind of cool.

Tried to confirm a DSU at the HR San Francisco Embarcadero. Even though both the Embarcadero Suite and the Balcony Suite are showing as available on the website, apparently upgrade availability is not open. I'm new to Hyatt, so they explained to me that upgrade inventory is different from revenue inventory. Is this generally the case or is this a rare example? I usually search online to check for upgrade availability.

Upgrade inventory is not necessarily the same as revenue inventory for the entry suites.

I have always been under the impression that if a suite (which the DSU can be applied to i.e. basic suite) is available for purchase under any rate, then it is available for a DSU. Is this not the case?

No it is not the case - unlike the base entry room if sold for revenue then is available for award redemption.

1. Park Hyatt Hotel Busan
2. Park executive suite king.
3. 68 square metres but it feels very spacious. A clever use of space perhaps?
4. An ocean facing bedroom, bathroom and a living area complete with couches and a larger television. Walk in closet.
5. C+. I like the modern layout and relative 'spaciousness' but the room had flaws. There was no Diamond welcome amenity and the washlet nozzle was bent. Ended up spraying me on the back. The closet is a welcome change from the horrible, standing piebox that the Grand Hyatt Seoul executive suites all have.
