Voss water is provided at almost all premium suites at Park Hyatt's worldwide, not sure about the US properties, though.

And I agree that it is ridiculous to ship water all around the world, especially when it is more or less average water like Evian. I see a business case for Voss in selected really expensive suites, but Evian is hardly more than a bit more expensive than average in many markets these days.

One more thing: I stayed at the PH Shanghai right after their opening and found the breakfast buffet a bit underwhelming but when I stayed this year it was really good in regards of quality and selection. I always prefer buffets over a la Carte but if I recall correctly you do have the choice between a la carte and buffet. At least when I stayed there!?
The PH Shanghai is still one of my favorite Hyatts and never fails to impress me, they treated me exceptionally well (even with upgrades to a Diplomat Suite) and the hotel runs really smooth.

Great recommendation. First time here and am very impressed by the warm welcome.

Using a free night and still received a nice Bund view room, and a selection of fresh bakery treats and breakfast items waiting in the room.

Is anyone here this weekend?

lol this reminds me of the time I put a bottle of 'real' Voss from the IC Amstel minibar in my bag as a left the airport for a flight to 'real' Norway. Of course, when I got to the airport they made me chu(g)ck it before clearing security.

They wouldn't let me repatriate the water!!

The cheap razors are pretty much standard issue for PHs/GHs and ICs in Asia (except for Korea which now bans such hotel bathroom items) as I've found them, Shick or Bic. Same as SQ and CX offer in their inflight lavs. The shave cream is pretty pathetic and could be upgraded to those small cans of foam. And tooth brushes and toothpaste are again pretty standard across the high end chains with their little tubes of Colgate. But any one who really cares about their razor or tooth brush will have packed and brought their own high end versions and not rely on the "emergency" offerings in the loos. And I don't mind spread out buffets particularly when they offer a diverse range of items scattered around the restaurant. Again, this is pretty standard to both ICs and PHs/GHs in Asia from my experience. I find it helps walk off the calories just consumed!

PHs are always understated in their modern design and ambiance, sometimes disconcertingly so to many guests. Yes, hallways are dark and rooms are minimalist in decor. That's a mark of PHs in China particularly.

KLM lost both, so I thought to rely on emergency equipment. 7-11s solve the problem too, ICs have a decent Gilette, btw.

Minimalist understatment doesn't have to equal underperformance and underwhelming, see PH Beijing and Tokyo, where we will return on paid stay for 4 nights in September.

I stayed one night at the Park Hyatt Shanghai last night using GP points. This was my first visit to this hotel. Entering the hotel, I went through a metal scanner and also had to put my cell phone and metal items in my pocket into a tray which were x-rayed. The hotel check-in desk is on the 87th floor. Service at check-in went well...acknowledged my Diamond status and was upgraded to a Bund view room on the 83rd floor. To get to the rooms I had to take another set of elevators. The room was modernistic and it took awhile to figure out which buttons to push to dim/turn the lights on and off. It was interesting looking down at the Jin Mao Tower where the Grand Hyatt is located. The diamond amenity was a pretty large 6 inch diameter blueberry tart.

Went to the Water's Edge on the 85th floor. When you sign in, they provide you a locker key. In the locker room there are robes, slipper and toiletries to use. Went for a swim in the 20 meter infinity pool and used the heated whirlpool next to the pool. Along the windows there are loungers with great views of the city.

For dinner I went to the 100 Century Avenue Restaurant on the 91st floor. The service and the food were excellent. For breakfast went to the Pantry Restaurant on the 87th floor. I had the breakfast buffet. Service at breakfast was good. The wait staff constantly refilled my orange juice and coffee cups throughout the meal.

At check out the breakfast charges were already removed from my folio. The front desk staff mentioned that my Hyatt Chase Visa card is only the second one she's seen so far.

Over all the stay was excellent and if in Shanghai again, I would probably return.

is this property still a better choice compared to the Bund or the Grand?
is the Park Hyatt Shanghai a property to be experienced?

They have removed the x-ray scanner at the entrance. There is no more x-ray checks any more.

The breakfast has been relocated to the 100 Century restaurant on the 91st floor. So there is a better view.^

Yes. IMO, it is. I actually prefer staying where the PH is rather than the Bund. But I'm no longer a tourist there.

What room did you book and how did you get an upgrade to a Diplomat Suite?

Stay Report: Park Hyatt Shanghai

Stayed here for one night while transiting through Shanghai

Arrival
Upon arrival in a taxi, two "greeters" came to the taxi, one opened the door, and the other one waited near the trunk to be popped. Was escorted to the elevators. Wow, I would be lost if I was not directed to the elevators as there were like 3 sets of doors to get through before getting to the elevators, this through corridors making me feel like i'm waiting through an enchanted forest. Greeter escorted me in the elevator until we arrived on the 87th floor for check-in. By the time I got to the check-in desk, front desk already welcomed me by my last name. Apparently, i told the first greeter and it sent upwards.

Was welcomed to the hotel and greeted as a diamond member. Was told I was upgraded to a Park Deluxe Corner Room with sweeping views over Shanghai on the 81st. Was directed to the "living"room area to wait for the room to be "inspected" and touched up. Escorted to the room by the person checking me in.

The set of elevators used for guestrooms and other facilities were different than the ground to lobby/restaurant elevators.

Accommodation
The room was very modernly decorated. Since it was a corner room, the room had 2 panes of windows as the room was shaped like two slices of pizza together. The entrance was semi-large with large closet space. My luggage was already neatly placed on a wooden "plank". Right off the entryway was a half-bath with a ever-so-cool TOTO super-automatic toilet (not just your standard TOTO but the one where you walk in and the lid opens automatically) and a square-vessel sink.

The entryway was separated by think wooden pillars from the rest of the room. My room had two twin size beds, a swivel chair, working desk, flat screen tv, a mini-expresso-electronic-coffee maker, and a day bed. The desk had a welcome amenity of passion-fruit tart (i guess this was the diamond amenity gift). Excellent layout and decor and did have the "sweeping" views of the park, JinMao tower (where the Grand Hyatt is), the Shanghai Tower (whatever it is called with the bubble tower), the Bund, and PuXi.

The bathroom had double sinks, large closet space, walk-in shower and separate soaking tub big enough for two. The rain-forest shower was extremely nice with high water pressure.

Recreation
The Water's Edge on the 85th was amazing. The infinity pool was warm and provided a nice swim in the morning. The jacuzzi next to it was also very nice, especially after a good swim. There were loungers by the windows overlooking Shanghai that were very comfortable, but not very good if you are looking for a tan. The fitness room was small but had all state-of-the-art equipments. Locker room (keys provided at check-in to Water's Edge) was large and clean and had a steam room inside.

Restaurant
Had breakfast up on the 91st floor (included as part of the diamond benefits). Not the most lavish breakfast spread considering the retail price of RMB240+15%. Had the standard hot western dishes, asian dishes, cantonese dim-sum, lots of fruit (i had at least 3 plates of mangos), pastries, and bread.
Breakfast charges were removed before I got to checkout.

Service
Impeccable. From the start of the stay to check-out and escorted by down to the taxi, all hotel personnel were gracious and willing to serve. Most of the personnel remembered my name and greeted me as such subsequently (i'm really not into that stuff or the personal escort thing)

Summary
A great stay. Hotel on Line 2 of the Metro which takes you to both Hongqiao and Pudong Airport. Next time i'm i town, i would not hesitate to stay here again, if budget allows. Great service, great rooms, great facilities.

What a gorgeous building, particularly at night. I walked in on two different days and had dinner at two restaurants on the second floor of the World Financial Center, Blue Frog (had a huge cobb salad) and Fresh Elements, a chain with at least a half dozen Shanghai locations (had a tuna sandwich at lunch while friends had a pasta dish and panini). I'd head back to either of those. Saw the signs inside directing me to Park Hyatt but didn't go take a look.

The hotel is not that close to the metro station IMO. I didn't try but it is 10+ minutes walking according to the front desk.

My trip from the 80th floor next door at the Grand Hyatt to the Metro platform was exactly 10 minutes and I did this every day for ten days. Maybe add a minute or two more to cross the street to Park Hyatt. I'm a pretty swift walker, though, so YMMV.
