We stayed here at Christmastime. Lobby was under construction. Didn't hear any airplane noise. The shuttle didn't start early enough to take us to the airport (6 a.m. flight) so we took a cab. I think the shuttle stops at midnight, but my husband sneaked out of the room around midnight and was able to talk shuttle driver into taking him to the Strip for poker. If you've got 3/4 people in the room & need 2 beds, a warning that the beds are really small--must be doubles but don't look it. I guess all HP's are designed this way, but the bathroom sink & vanity are actually a part of the bedroom which, from now on, I'm going to try & avoid if traveling with another person(s). Since our departure was so early, didn't get to try the breakfast. Did eat at Hofbrau haus, disappointing and would not recommend. Hard Rock is kitty-corner from it.

If you don't like staying on the Strip, like being able to park close (& have a car to get around), want to be very near the airport or can get a rate under $100, this HP is okay.

I also stayed during the Christmastime construction (early December). I used an extra FFN there so I got two nights with a stay credit for $89+tax total. As I don't gamble enough to be comped anywhere, and am the only person who enjoys driving in Vegas, I was happy enough with the property.

to piggy back off 777's post

It doesn't have the best looking or largest HP lobby I have seen (small nice enough) however it has a decent b/f area. It starts at 6:30 a.m. and not a minute before. I went down for coffee at 6:25 a.m. thinking the coffee would be out and the lady states "We open at 6:30 sir" as I look at my watch and its 6:27 a.m.

I rank this as not one of the best Hyatt Places I have stayed at as the soundproofing didn't bother me (unless you were outside when a WN flight took off 30 feet over the hotel). The pool was dirty.. floaties and stuff settled on the bottom. No one used it either day I was there that I saw. It was a long check out with the clerk not knowing how to process my gift card; after the time he took, I get a phone call two days later to call them; he needed the GC number again. I will say my $79 rate was pretty nice though.

There is something nice about avoiding all the mayhem of the big casino hotels and parking nightmares which I found as well and was a huge plus, just like the Marriott properties in the area.As well as having Hyatt stay credit/points/miles, a big flat screen, a fridge and business center to boot.

For those addicted to using GPS units watch out as the directions takes you slighty out of the way/ the wrong way into a dead end one way street.
I had to back up and use my brain to figure it out. LOL.. if I hadn't been to the hofbrauhaus (sic?) before, I would have never figured out how to get in and out properly

The usual down sides:
Hyatt Place breakfasts still need impovements in quality and variety. In other words, unless you want to pay, its pretty chintzy.

I did get the USA today during my stay. The other consistent thing at all Hyatt Places is no mention or understanding of Diamond amenity points and I was not asked nor did they have a clue, I'll wait for the slow posting and then request them.

I'd use them again for the price; but I will try something else as well if its a buck cheaper unless I need HY stay credits

For Conventions..

This hotel is a straight, uncrowded 5 to 7 minute drive to the back of the LV Convention Center driving up Swenson St, and the same back to the hotel down Paradise. You can usually pull in the back and maneuver by the South Hall loading docks to the front, then take a left in the parking lot caddy corner from the South Hall entrance - $10/day w/ In & Out privileges. No snickering from the peanut gallery .

Forgot to add: Ask the front desk if they have any suggestions for dining within walking distance - they also have some coupons for restaurants at the Hard Rock located caddy-corner and the $9.95 prime rib buffet there.

Just completed a stay here for one night. It was nice to be off the strip and being able to avoid 100 meter walks from the elevator to the room (let alone the 250 meters one walks from the hotel entrance to the Registration desk to the elevator bank!!).

Like the business center and the ability to print out everything I needed and the free wifi. Our room was on the ground floor by the hotel laundry facility so it had a rather sewer like smell in the hallways.

Cheap rate, decent Japanese restaurant across the street -- if need be, I would not mind staying here again.

I am here now (11/14/09)-- nice property, off the strip and as others mentioned it is diagonally across from the Hard Rock Hotel. I was unable to check in until after 4pm, as when I arrived at 2:45pm, I was told they were fully booked the night before and rooms were not ready. (Not a big deal, as I had a car and drove down to PH which is on Harmon just about a mile away). For those who care, the website for this property does state that wine and beer are available-- but they are not, this hotel does not yet have a liquor license and while they do show a bar menu, listed with wines and beers, none can be ordered. Also, if you are coming from the Strip along Harmon, it is the immediate right turn into what appears to be the Hofbrau Haus restaurant. (I passed it, and had to go down into UNLV to turn around).

Stayed there for a night last month after a night on the Strip. Nice change to find a "normal" hotel in this city, nary a slot machine in sight! Found it was actually convenient in that one can catch a city bus into the city or to the convention centre, or even out to the airport. However, the hotel will also shuttle yo to the airport for free (and the customary tip to the driver). As noted, the hard Rock is across the street, and the Hofbrau across the parking lot. Also walked up to the Atomic Testing Museum one morning. Staff is friendly and helpful, rooms are large and well kept, with a huge LCD TV that swivels between the sitting room area and the bedroom space.

Did you happen to notice if they have "real" HD service, or just an analog signal?

Early check in for $20

Called to see if I could check-in after an early morning flight (I'll get there at 8 am) and was told that, based on availability, it would cost $20 to check in early. First time I've heard of this at any Hyatt or HP. That dollar amount sure is popular in this town!

*Edited to add - Showed up at 8 - room available for early check in at 9 - no charge!
Digital channels for networks, also espn & espn2, HDnet and HD HBO

I had both for me and for my wife five stays in the Las Vegas Hyatt and I must say it was not worth the money.

Our Platinum status was not recognized at all. Each and every stay gave us the smallest possible rooms.

For each and every stay I had customer service to change from Hyatt points (which I was given) to United miles (which I asked the hotel to credit).

One stay did not credit at all!

Isn't the onus on us to change our collection default in our master account info online or with customer service, and not by instructing individual properties that we want to go from points to miles on any given stay? As for the room size, I agree the bedrooms are just large enough to hold a king bed but the lounge area is plenty large. HPs are pretty much like Hampton Inns or Holiday Inn Expresses: one basic room size/design. So as a Plat or Diamond or regular guest, there is little or nothing to be upgraded to. I think your expectations of this base level branch of the Hyatt family are more than can be expected I was quite pleased with my stay last month and will be heading back in mid-December for a double MR -- mileage and mattress.

If you were looking for a real bang for your buck, Planet Hollywood for even less money a night (average $79) would give you a big room and a 25-oz bottle of the booze of your choice, each night! Why keep going back to the HP if you are that dissatisfied? Oh, I know, double stay credits and a free night at a $400+ PH for every two nights here. Hardly "not worth the money."

I've had 8 stays at HP Las Vegas this year and no problems whatsoever. Additionally, I've always been asked what I prefer as my welcome amenity.

I've NEVER been asked at at HP about the diamond welcome amenity. A few times I found a cheese and salami plate in the fridge.
