Eligible Dollars ?

I did try to find a definition on Hyatt GP website and also here, but couldn't find it.

Could someone please clarify what "eligible dollars" are ? I had a recent stay at a GH; while I did pay with a certificate there were some extras on the folio which showed up only as 102 points - much lower than expected. I guess the difference comes from the definition "eligible dollar".
Could someone please explain it to me ?

Cheers

Did you use a stay certificate? If so, then you don't get points. The theory is that the rates are already very reduced and should not get any extra benefits. You get points for the incidentals only.

However, if you did not use a stay certificate and instead the certificate was a gift certificate, then I'm puzzled as to why you wouldn't get points.

That one little detail of type of certificate can change everything.

I used a stay certificate. I am aware of the fact that I don't get points for that nor the stay credit, however there were several other items on the folio (e.g. Spa treatment, ...) and I would definately expect points for that.
The folio was much higher than 20 'bucks' (~100 points as credited), so I was wondering about the definition of eligable points ....

As discussed in various threads, expenditures which qualify for points vary from property to property. Your best bet is to contact CS and see what they say. Don't be surprised, however, if your spa expenditures do not qualify, as some outsourced services (e.g. valet/parking) may not qualify. It's pretty frustrating. Good luck and don't forget to report back with the resolution.

The above post accurately reflects the situation. However, it would be helpful if you would anme the property and let us know the items that did not qualify for GP points. These could include: spa charges, shop, valet parking, parking, business center, hire of sporting goods.

Your folio will have a * next to the charges that are not eligible for points, and as others have said, it could be anything from the spa to valet services, and almost anything by a 3rd party providor.

Basically, the spa policy is this:

If the hotel owns and operates the spa, then you will get points. If a third party owns and operates the spa, you generally won't. Examples of spas that do count include both Waikiki and Maui. There have been discussions on here about hotels where spas don't count, but I've not had that experience since I generally only spa in Hawaii.

The same also goes for restaurants and shops. For example, at the sundry shop in Maui, you can charge to your room, but you get no points because the hotel contracts that shop out.

It's really a toss-up, but you can usually ask at checkin if any of the hotel shops and spas do not give GP points so you know up front.

OK, so here I report back.
I faxed the folio with a short remark to CS (besides there were no * next to eligable dollars on the folio).

Now they changed the credit: ~100 points became ~3500. I have however not received any explanation fo it.

It IS on the Hyatt GP website at http://goldpassport.hyatt.com/gp/en/...&cat_id=16&wt=.

"Eligible Incidental Charges" vary on a hotel-by-hotel basis, but generally include food, beverage and lounge expenditures (except at outlets not operated by the hotel) and other charges such as laundry, valet and telephone. Hyatt Gold Passport points will not be awarded on alcoholic beverage purchases in certain jurisdictions. Hyatt Gold Passport points are not awarded for retail outlet charges, service charges, taxes, casino charges, incentive travel awards, gratuities, pay-per-view in-room movies, gift certificates/gift cards, or vouchers, unless specified in a specific promotion or for services provided by outside vendors. Hyatt Gold Passport points will not be awarded for taxes or function room charges charged to member's room. Hyatt Gold Passport points will not be awarded for incidentals or Hyatt hotel food and beverage charges in conjunction with a Hyatt Vacation Club stay.

"Eligible Incidental Charges" ...Hyatt Gold Passport points are not awarded for ... services provided by outside vendors. ...

And there's the rub. If you receive incorrect information from the property when asking whether a particular service (e.g. spa, valet) is provided by an outside vendor, you'll be out of luck as to point credit if, indeed, those services are provided by outside parties. When in doubt, perhaps best to check w/ Hyatt CS, in advance and document the response. There have been several other threads in this forum warning of outside vendors at certain properties.

Glad you got your points, OP!
