Does prevailing rate = rack rate?
 

Just wondering if there is a way to see rack rate at hyatt.com. To see what rate one has to pay in order to use points for a suite upgrade. In particular looking at the Grand Hyatt Bali.

no prevailing rate is not rack rate as far as I know
but its also a bit of a grey area as to what rate one needs to pay to get a suite upgrade.
I think it depends on the property .. at least in my experience it does.

you can turn sommersalts in GHHK and usually not get a suite
you can pay the BN992 (2 nights for $359 inc $99 in f and b)

and get the suite with a certificate in Adelaide:confused:

and everything in between

Id call and ask the res agents and get a name and make sure the upgrade is requested on the reservation confirmation

If using points is it a request only or a guarantee?

I have used points to REQUEST a suite at the GH Bali three times.
each time I was told that
The request is in and if available I will get my suite:mad:
each time I did but was charged extra for the ocean suite whichi didnt order.
Oh well it was lovely.

Its totally F'd up.... Hyatt GP get your TIC straight. Example that i am currently going through. In order to get a suit upgrade i must pay $100 more than the Hyatt.com prevailing rate for 2 nights, then pay $50 less than prevailing for 2 additional nights for a total of 4 nights! The only way you know your upgradable rate is to call Goldpassport. This grey area needs to be laid out ahead of time. Hyatt are you listening?

I understand there are some concerns about making a reservation with the Gold Passport points to upgrade to a suite. Depending on the property location, there are two different booking methods. If the property is a domestic property, Hyatt Suite Desk Agents have the ability to confirm the availability of the use of Gold Passport points to upgrade to a suite. Unfortunately, if the property is international, the request to upgrade to a suite using Gold Passport points is sent directly to the hotel, as the agent is not able to provide a confirmation at the time of our member’s request.

In regards to the quoted rates of the domestic suite upgrades using Gold Passport points, at resort properties a member must pay a minimum of the deluxe prevailing rate (such as partial ocean view, ocean view, slope view, etc.). While at non-resort properties a member must pay a minimum of the prevailing rate. This information may also, be found in the program’s terms and conditions on www.goldpassport.com.

I hope I was able to clarify some of the concerns as displayed in this thread. Thank you for your continued support of the Hyatt Gold Passport program.

Thank you for posting on behalf of GP, but that does not answer the question. Who controls the bookable rate for upgrades, the individual hotel or Hyatt.com. Conflicting information has not been cleared up regarding paying prevailing=rack...I understand the resort property program, but not the standard hotel program. I have been charged different rates at many international hotels in Asia that I stay in that do not match the hyatt.com prevailing rate to upgrade.
