Question on expiring points

Question. Please forgive me, I know everybody gets tired of the same questions over and over again. I did a search and I couldn't find the answer on FlyerTalk. I am pretty sure I've read this on goldpassport.com although I can't find it right now.

Am I correct that Gold Passport points never expire regardless of whether or not there is activity in the members account?

As far as I know Priority Club also allows points to remain active in accounts without any activity indefinitely but Hilton requires there be activity every 12 months or the points are gone (in entirety) without notice.

Is there a definitive thread on hotel programs and their expiry policies anywhere or is it just a matter of learning it and remembering it?

Apologies for asking something I'm sure has been discussed thousands of times. I will check back for any responses. Thank you very much.

According to the T&C, I think you need to have some activity in your goldpassport account every 12 months. That said, people here have reported that Hyatt does NOT enforce this, and accounts dormant for several years still have all their points intact.

I have not read this and have friends who ahve not had activity since 2000 and the account is still intact.. good on Hyatt and
boo to hilton!
12 mths what rubbish!

Thanks, I appreciate the feedback, I will continue to check back in the event anybody else shares their experiences. It is difficult to keep up with, everything runs in cycles.

You might get better responses to posts if you try to make the subject line more specific next time. Just a friendly suggestion. "Question" doesn't really tell people browsing the forum what the question is. "Question about GP point expiration" would have been much better.

The moment I posted it and saw it there I immediately thought the same thing, I went back to edit the post and could only figure out how to edit the content, I couldn't figure out how to edit the title. Thank you for your feedback, its spot on, you are absolutely right and I felt pretty badly about that. I am very sorry for the inconvenience this has caused people who had read through the thread only to realize it wasn't a question about something they could readily answer. I apologize.

Thank you, much appreciated.

I'll point you to a thread I started in 2005 asking essentially the same question:

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=401230

Hyatt really doesn't enforce the 12-month "rule." Despite minimal activity more than a year apart, my points (earned in 2004) stayed active in the account. I finally used some last year and this year.

The above thread was extremely helpful. It may make sense to just adding a tracking feature on the spreadsheet which captures last activity date, as is the case with the airlines, to ensure there is some activity every 12 months. Thank you.
