One example. I had a hotel once ask me to email them from my corporate email to show I still worked there. This was in addition to me showing them my badge

IME, not so much with Hyatt, but rather IHG or Hilton, this all depends on a number of factors. For one, there is a difference between negotiated rates at specific properties vs. (global) "chainwide discounts".
The validations of my corporate credentials that I experienced (e.g. IC Osaka, IC ANA Tokyo, IC Kuala Lumpur) were tied to me using a negotiated corporate rate for the specific property in question and the rate was much lower rate than rack rate/ best flexible type rate (e.g. 50% or more even). This usually applies at hotels that are very near our corporate offices or so.
As one of the Director of Rooms (& reservations) told me, they had just way too much booking volume for the rate versus what was predicted/ estimated in the rate agreement with our firm and they were loosing revenue that way big time. Also many of the folks using the rate didn't match the "profile" (appearance, country of origin / passport) of travellers that the hotel had experienced before and was expecting, so they started to implement tougher validations.
Being challenged on the chain wide discount rates that can hover between 12 - 25ish percent off best flex rates depending on chain, stay duration and such has been rarer on the other hand. Often those rates are similar or slightly higher than advanced purchase type rates with the benefit of being cancellable with 24/48 hrs notice, so maybe those don't hurt the hotels as much.
Lastly, as others said, it also depends on the individual companies internal policies (e.g. we can use corporate rates for personal travel as well) and whether there are restrictions in place like booking through corporate portal (e.g. Carlson Wagonlit) and such.
Anyone using it without being authorized, do so at your own risk. Especially in desirable properties in Japan I found they really cranked up validations now that travel has picked up significantly and regular rates are much higher than before COVID.

Just checked into the Andaz Tokyo and they didnt ask me for any verification, nor did I get a pre-arrival email asking for any. I paid 47k JPY for a Park View room. The Park Hyatt Tokyo asked me for a business card my first stay there earlier this year but hasnt asked for anything since.

I have also found that if I'm a repeat guests at such a properties and have gone through the "validation process" previously, I tend not to get asked again.
Overall though, the most "checks / verifications" I have encountered around the world have definitely been in Japan, but mostly for our property level negotiated rates that can undercut best flex rates by 50-60% at times. YMMV.

Contracts may also stipulate what level of employee can use the code and if for business use or and leisure.
I have direct experience with these so speak factually.

Hi All it's climate week coming up in NYC and the prices are insane. Any chance someone can PM me a great code? I'd really appreciate it (and yes i've googled and know all the public ones from goingawesomeplaces etc, looking for some unique ones that can bring most of the $600+ night hotels down to a more reasonable number). Truly appreciate it!

Globalist through >60 nights a year for over 5 years now. I have legitimate access to a corporate code, and my employment has only been verified at two properties.
- Hyatt Regency Hong Kong, Tsim Sha Tsui - Asked on check in. Presented my business card which was accepted.
- Park Hyatt Sydney - Corp rate reduces rooms from 4 figures to $300~ a night. The property liaises directly with my companies travel desk to verify employees. Had a colleague who resigned, which resulted in the PH sending an email cancelling an upcoming booking as she was no longer authorised to use the rate.

I’ve just changed companies and have one month of employment left, however I am using this month to use all my PTO and travel; I still have my business cards and ID (however that’s literally just my photo and name, it doesn’t even carry the company logo) but already handed in my phone and laptop…
I’m planning to stay at the Hyatt Regency in Tokyo, which also would be my first stay at Hyatt (I’ve been only staying at Marriott before but the Hyatt corporates rates in Tokyo are way better). Will my ID + business cards suffice in this case?

I work at one of the > 100K employees tech giants. Just to confirm from prior discussions, I book work travel through our travel company, but also have negotiated rates for personal travel at many chains.
I haven't had to send/receive email from my corporate domain email at a hotel ever, but I did have to do so once for an expensive rental car. I think everyone using a company-negotiated discount should be prepared to do so.
