Park Hyatt Hamburg - REVIEW - MASTER THREAD -Leaving 31Dec22

Preface: Used VS and BA points for awards to HAM and GVA.

Status: Diamond.

Rate: Used or should I say wasted 30,000 points to confirm two award nights on Club.

Transportation: I am conservative. I came in on BA which is in Terminal 1. Upon exiting baggage claim at HAM go out the doors and break right. You are heading towards stop "A". A Jesper bus with Hbf will come up every fifteen minutes. Enter at the front of the bus and pay the driver. 8 euros for a return ticket. The bus will drop you off in front of the Hbf. Just walk thru the station and cross one street. Heads towards the walking shopping street. Make the first left onto Muhren. You need to pass Monckebergstr. The next street will be Bugenhagenstr. Make a hard right onto the street. The Hotels entrance will be on the right. That was reasonable.

Parking: n/a

Check-in: I checked in on level 2. I asked specific for a non-smoke room and the agent confirmed it was indeed a non-smoke room. Another agent came down from the Club on 7 to escort me to my room. The room had a ashtray and smelled of smoke so I needed to do a room change. I was given a "little" used room. More on that later.

Perks: No amenity offered. When I asked about it I was told I got it. A room on Club. Not. I did finally receive two apples and chocolate covered nuts.

Lounge: The Lounge is ok. I made it to the evening presentation which was a number of cold items and one hot item. Spring rolls tonight. All the liqour out was complimentary so that would be a good deal. A ok spread but nothing like some of the Grands. A Park with a Lounge is a good thing.

Room: The "little" used room I finally got into is a funny little thing. You enter onto carpet. The room has lots of angles as it is on the top floor. The room has a desk with chair, comfy chair with ottoman, frig, tv and queen bed. My king bed disappeared in the move. The room has a separate closet room, toilet room (very small) and bathroom. The AC blows directly around the bed. If you want to use the safe you need to bring a chair into the closet to reach it. The room is located on the other side of two staff elevators. Getting the picture. If the other room did not smell so much of smoke it was definitely more comfortable and homey. I have doors which lead out to an interior "terrace" so to speak.

Bathroom: A small affair compared to the last room. Small counter space with a single basin sink. The bath is large and you have a separate shower with a rain shower head. Ok.

Internet: Wired in the room. 24 hours for 18 euros all in. Expensive.

Gym: Believe located on floor -1.

Spa: same

Eating venues: Bar and restaurant on 2.

Local markets: The holiday spirit is on in HAM. Lots of things all around.

Local area: Central.

Negatives: Full of them AFAIK. I expected more. The staff is so so. The room is ok. Certainly not Park, maybe Grand. I've seen lot better Grands. I am disappointed.

Closing: A run of the mill Grand Hyatt to me. Not worth 30,000 points for two nights when you can get other great props for those same points. I've been here and done it. No need to return.

I'm not familiar with the rates there, but I would have tried to use a Stay Certificate instead of 30k points. The Premier certificate would have cost you $165 all in, which works out to around 124 Euros, or about 103 euro per night room rate.

We recently got in on the CO EWR-CGN deal and HAM was on our list of possibilities. Decided to stay in at the Hyatt in Cologne using the stay certs, $135 all in per night. One of the nicer RCs we've been to.

The hits just keep on coming.

Those elevators. Once you turn everything off. Since they are staff elevators run 24/7. You can hear them and also slightly feel them.

The room has no clock. Not one on the side bed panel or the tv. I had to call and ask for a wake-up call. They said they have never ever been asked by any guest about a clock or the rooms lack of one. How stupid.

When I got onto the internet they asked for me to confirm the "buy" of time again. Now the clock says day plus the hours remaining. Probably charged again. Going to get a late check-out and confirm I can get my seconds night points back. Will see about moving to the SPG property. If I am going to blow points at this rate rather use SPG points.

Thanks for the info on the rate. Actually tried to convert this to a three night FFN stay. It was not possible since the first night was not available.

Well I was watching the Lake House in English and that channel has now gone blank. The other channels are working. Add another one. The Hotel is becoming a total pass.

but from time to time s**t happens, even if it shouldnt... we are guests there again next weekend on 4 rooms ( small family/ business party ) and i def hope its gonna be great....

I've settled my bill and moved on. I did get charged again for internet access which was promptly taken off. The Duty Managers were helpful but obviously the Hotel was not working for me. Moved to the Le Royal Meridien Hamburg. See my report under the Starwood forum. Now this Hotel is over the top literally.

RTWSA,

I have to say that I love your trip reports and thank you very much for giving us the whole enchilada - markets, gym, how to get there etc.

This hotel sounds awful, I'll remember to avoid it.

Thank you. I enjoy doing them and it comes in handy down the line when I need something remembered. I wish they were all a fairly "perfect" stay. Just call them as I get them.

I disagree

I have stayed there several times and have never had a problem. On a few occasions I have been upgraded to a junior suite.

I too have to disagree. The PH Hamburg is a perfectly nice hotel and without any doubt my first choice in Hamburg

I stayed there a month back and I got no diamond benefits at all. No one mentioned anything about upgrades, diamond benefits, club, nothing. I was too tired to start asking and arguing about it since the hotel looked really nice anyway. I booked a regular room and stayed in a regular room. If I had no status at all, the hotel would be perfect, but sometimes the status gets me annoyed if it's not recognized

If we forget the status recognition, it's a great hotel.

They used to give a bottle of wine as an amenity, the last times only some fruits were in the room. Apart from that we were always upgraded to the Club.

If you have any problems there, jsut speak to the GM or his staff, who is very friendly and will quickly take care of the problems.

I was there about a year ago, and also received no Diamond amenity. When I asked about a room on the RC floor, I was told that I could have access, but that Mariah Carey had reserved all the rooms (I was only there 2 nights & never ran into her ), The hotel is attached to a shopping mall and was converted from some sort of factory--which may account for the odd rooms/layouts). I found my room to be just fine for my needs, although it did look out onto the shopping street, and I kind of liked the bathroom. Mine was very modern and sleek. But given your report, next time I may try the LM, although I had a pretty dismal visit at the MUC LM a month ago

Had a fine stay there around 18 months ago. The breakfast spread was marvelous. Nice modern design, extensive use of woods.

Too bad to hear. We had a wonderful time at the hotel and thought the food in the RC was quite nice. Lots of interesting and fancy little servings of German and European food. We spent some time in the RC just trying all the different offerings and drinking sparkling German wine. The room was fairly nice too. Breakfast had pretty good service too. The young looking RC staff person was one of the best I have encountered with Hyatt. This was a few years ago so maybe things have changed. That would be too bad since the hotel was the highlight of my trip to Hamburg, along with H&M, since the city has a frigid arctic climate.
