Yes, the Skylink is inside security. Your basic plan should work. Given the choice I would always overnight at the airport rather than off airport. The Grand Hyatt and Hyatt Regency are both outside security, but the Grand Hyatt is inside the terminal complex and does not involve crossing the parking garage.

The more upscale food vendors are in Terminal D.

While your plan is perfectly legit, it shows a touching faith in an airline's bag transfer system which I would be reluctant to go along with.

There are also frequent transfer busses from the front of each terminal to the other terminals. That is another option which would let you check in your bags at the right terminal and might marginally increase the probability that your bags were on your flight, admittedly at some increase in hassle.

Reading these posts is seems as though if I am traveling out of terminal E (on Delta flight) I should be able to check my bags in in terminal D and then take the skylink to get to my terminal after clearing security? Is this true? If not then I will have to take the bus even if I had a printed boarding pass because of the liquid regulations. Thanks for the help. Also since I have an early flgiht I plan on dropping my rental car off at night and taking the shuttle over to the terminal, will this get me to the grand or do I have to take another shuttle?

I will be at the GH soon. I called the Hotel and asked about parking validation if you have a meal in the restaurant. They will validate and it will cost you $5 for valet parking. I have an associate meeting me for an early breakfast before flying on AA to SJU.

Grand Hyatt DFW - Reviews - MERGED

Preface: A layover before flying to the San Juan.

Rate: Online at Hyatt.com.

Transportation: Used the SkyLink to Terminal D. Exit secure side and head towards Grand Hyatt sign.

Parking: ?

Check-in: The kiosk did not work. Headed toward the front desk. Upgraded to slightly larger room on end with two double beds. Picked points and given a voucher for continental breakfast and a Moka. Asked to pick all the papers I wanted delivered.

Perks: As noted above.

Room: Upon entering carpet. Bathroom is to the right. Separate tub and shower. Single basin mostly in black stone. Standard amenities. I think the bathroom needs a little upgrading. The shower enclosure feels weak and kinda cheap. Also slippery. Have two queen beds with wood panel behind. Lots of pillows. The desk has two chairs followed with a Samsung flat panel tv and a closet. It does have one of those annoying automatic mini bars. I had a note from the GM welcoming me.

Internet: Kinda a pain. You need to sign up for service from T Mobile. $9.95 for 24 hours.

Gym: ?

Spa: ?

Eating venues: A restaurant on the Lobby level. Get your food on the secure side if you can as I noted nothing after security.

Local markets: No near here.

Local area: DFW

Negatives: I know it is impossible to make 100% sound proof considering location. That being said I thought it would be a little more quiet.

Closing: A convenient location obviously. Worth two bills. Not really. They would really need to tone up the Hotel and room touches for that. Found return is necessary.

Self-parking is free for hotel guests, they will validate your ticket so you won't be charged at the airport exit.

The internet bit is standard at most all domestic U.S. Hyatts, and the interesting thing I found was that I could use the internet at the airport hot spots (also T-mobile) until the 24 hours expired.

When I stayed there they were kind enough to upgrade me to a wonderful, huge suite where the soundproofing was just fine. I thought the restaurant was good, but it's true there isn't any other selection -- other than walking over to the OTHER Hyatt -- outside of security.

As an aside, the DFW Grand Hyatt is actually owned directly by the DFW Airport Board, rather than a private developer (as is typically the case at other airports). Profits and losses from the hotel are distributed to the user airlines (primarily American Airlines) at the end of each fiscal year as a part of their over financial settlements (DFW is what is known as a "residuals" airport, where the user airlines (again, primarily American Airlines) are responsible for all operating costs and receive all operating profits).

So help me undestanding here:
You will have to exit the secure side to go to the hotel, and if you want to go get food in the terminal you have to pass another security check?

Yes.

I just stayed at this hotel on a mad dash around North America. Yes, DFW is my home airport, but my time between flights didn't allow me to go home and get enough sleep.

I really like this hotel. Yes (at $285 Plus tax) it was darned expensive, but time is money. The hotel restaurant the Grand Met is really fine. I had a wonderful meal. So tired I really did sleep. The shower was fine for me, but I am a small person.

Departure in the morning was very easy. The bellman took my bags to American's First Class check in, and waited with me until I had my baggage claims and boarding passes. I checked in my bags 2 hours ahead of my flight as my flight was out of another terminal.

I then went back into the Grand Hyatt for a very nice and civilized breakfast. About an hour before my flight I walked into the terminal, using the First Class TSA line in D (about 5 minutes) and took the SkyLink to my own terminal (7 minutes).

My room was very quiet.

The only problem was the goofy alarm clock/IPod charger. I ended up telephoning for a wake up call. How about a regular alarm clock? That would be nice!

Warning: the marble bathroom floor gets very slippery and has potential for a slip and fall situation. I enjoyed having plenty of towels but the soap and shampoos even in an 'executive' room were very not to my taste.

Likely I will stay at this fine hotel again. I like it better than the old HR at DFW.

No one mentioned this so it might be new. As a guest at the hotel you can have access to the secure area of the airport without a boarding pass. Just ask the front desk and they will call the police officer who will come and issue a pass. You go down to the terminal level, hand the pass to TSA and go through. This is great for dining and shopping in duty-free shops (terminal D is international mostly). You can also use sky-link to go to other terminals, too.

Thumbs up Great hotel

Just stayed last night at the GH DFW.. Great hotel.. and if you are travelling on AA (and arriving in Terminal D), a very short walk in the terminal.

Very nice hotel.. As a Diamond, given upgrade to a Suite overlooking the runway, as well as the Diamond Amenity (I took the 1,000 points but they had snacks & Drinks as options as well. In addition, I was given a breakfast coupon worth $15 as well as a coupon for one order of Lily coffee from MOKA (the 24 hour cafe).

Staff throughout my staff was wonderful and attentive. I was addressed by name throughout the stay.

POSITIVES:
(1) hotel is located right in the D terminal.. so a breeze to get to and there are public signs everywhere
(2) Upgrade for Diamond Member to suite. It appears by the floor plan that I saw in the room that this property has quite a bit of Suites, so I imagine an upgrade is pretty high
(3) 24 hour Cafe (MOKA) that offers some pretty premium food - Cheese plates, premium chocolates
(4) 24 hour gym located on the 9th floor - large and modern gym. I love the swimming pool located outside (It would be a bit loud with all of the jets flying above though. Locker room is well equiped with toothpaste, toothbrush, miniature SCOPE mouthwash, individual hair spray, razors, etc... There's even a huge steam room.
(5) The restaurant is very nice.. Had a nice breakfast
(6) Rooms are modern, and the Bed is the most comfortable bed that I have slept in.
(7) Wireless internet provided by T-Mobile - so if you have already an account with them, it doesnt cost additionally. Also the 24 hour rate is only 9.95 which is quite reasonable.

NEGATIVES:
(1) I had a suite overlooking the runway.. It appears that the windows are not as sound proof as it could be and one could hear jets taking off and landing throughout the day.
(2) The bathroom toletries are the standard Hyatt stuff (PortoSpa). I was expecting Aveda or some other premium brands

Just had my second stay at this property. On check-in, was told "We have a surprise for you, due to occupancy levels we have put you in our Grand Suite!" The manager went out of his way to introduce himself to me and was very friendly.

What a large suite it was - had TWO separate doors, one entry area, leading to a large living/dining room area. Adjacent was a small kitchen with counter and sink. This was where the second entry door was. Was too tired to remember if any stove - don't think so....but had a wine bottle fridge

The master bedroom had a Super King in an unusual wood box frame with heaps of great pillows. There was also a desk with a Dell desktop computer, monitor, and wireless keyboard and mouse. You could plug the Tmobile ethernet cable into that, but I chose to just use my laptop/wi-fi.

The bathroom was HUGE - had both a tub with shower AND a large glass-enclosed shower. Vanity counter and seat with small TV on one end, and single (?) sink on the other end. Interestingly, the bathroom products were not the standard ones for the hotel, but were Ermenegildo Zegna shampoo/conditioner/body gel/lotion. Quite nice!

The living room also had a small telescope so you could watch the runway action closer - too dark to see if any fun buildings to peak into, and couldn't see any stars in the sky.

I would agree with ACFly's review. Also, the pool did have a lot of bugs in it, when I went to swim at night, just FYI, but was kinda fun to swim. I could smell the jet fuel fumes, though, so not sure how healthy it was exercising and breathing that in! Did get a bit loud with planes, but not too bad.

So far, I've only had sushi and satay in the bar lounge along with some sake. Food was great, and I hear their cheeseburgers are highly rated.

VERY convenient for doing an overnight at DFW and a very pleasant place to stay overall, with good Diamond recognition. ^

I had a one night FFN stay there a few months ago and was also upgraded to a suite. Although, it wasn't the grand suite. I do think that property has great recognition for diamond members, and the hospitality is definitely great.

I spent two nights at the Grand Hyatt earlier this month (AMG invited me for a few track days) and after seeing Madonna in Houston went back for one more night before my flight back to YYC
First two nights I guess they gave me an executive room since it had a small seperate living room and the door tag said max rate $1000. My next stay I stayed in their standard room which had a very nice desk and the door tag read $550 MAX. Well since I wasn't entertaining I actually preferred the regular room since I could work at the desk watch tv and see planes take off all at one seat.

The bathroom was very clean and spacious from what I'm use too at hotels, didn't come close to slipping once. The TV can swivel very well which came in handy.

Since my flights came in and out of terminal D it was very convenient, got the Hotel Police escort back in the terminal so I could enjoy a little people watching and choice in food/shopping. I ate at the resto once and enjoyed the meal and the prices didn't seem to steep for me. I did end up at the bar 4 times and had great service each time.

I had runway room every night and never noticed any significant noise, slept like a baby, may have been the 4 trips to the bar for a nightliner though? Only complaint I had was 2nd time I checked out, they didn;t let me review the bill just charged me $100 more then my initial rate since I took everything out of the minibar to accommodate my sodas/munchies. Obviously they revered the erroneus charges but the delay (Good 8 minutes) and attitude of GA ticked me off.
