Phantom stays according to Hyatt

Correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think I've seen this terminology on hyatt web site before.
Now web check in bonus T&Cs include this:

Failure to visit the Hyatt Express Check-In Kiosk or the front desk may result in your room being released as an early departure, and your payment card being charged one night's room accommodations. These stays are considered phantom stays. Phantom stays are not eligible for Hyatt Gold Passport points, credit toward tier status or participation in bonus points or other promotional offers. A phantom stay is described as a stay where a guest uses Hyatt Web Check-In or 1-800-CHECK-IN to check into a hotel but does not physically stay at the hotel.

This seems very new to me. Seems like a direct response to what they learn on FT.

Sometimes I wish we weren't such a sharing community.

Then again, I never did a phantom stay, I always manage to bring home my toiletries.

Sigh...

I guess the party's over

I haven't done too many of them in the past year or so anyway. The rates at my local Hyatt have been pretty comparible when you include the ability to get 1W and also G bonuses not available at some of our favorite phantom sites.

I did 1 once in my life: Last Nov. at Denver TC because I had had only 1 real stay that autumn & I wanted that darn FFN ! I see no reason to do it outside of FFN season (except in Dec. to earn/ maintain Diamond status if one is so close.)

Its probably about time discussions on phantom type stays move to background PMs to avoid futher ramifications.

I think there was someone offering to setup a business in Denver a while back to check folks in

It there is someone out there really thinking along these lines PM me - please.

Thanks!

I guess all good things eventually come to an end. I never had the chance to do any, but given my stay count for this year and the cost of my local Hyatt was somewhat tempted.

Now that Hyatt has taken the FT definition of Phantom Stay do you think Wikipedia will be far off?

Luckily I don't think they can find a way to ban mattress runs.

This is hilarious! I wonder which FTer coined the term. I suppose that should be possible to figure out with a search . . .

A "normal" person reading the terms and conditions would probably think, "Well why would anyone do that?"

Jayer's post (#12 in the thread) on 12/25/03 is the earliest I could find, but my search skills are limited, there could be others or it could have crossed-over from another hotel forum.

And the next step...security will check if you had a shower, if you turned the TV on, if you used the bed...more rules, more rules and more rules. I rather see Management devoting more time at improving the product, service and quality of some properties
