DC location information request
 

I'm trying to book a room for a course in DC at George Washington University, and I must book a GOV rate. I don't know the city well enough to figure out which Hyatt will be most convenient. While the Hyatts in the city don't offer the rate, Crystal City and Arlington do. Could someone suggest which would be an easier commute to the university and/or if one of these hotels is significantly better than the other.

If you are interested in commuting via public transportation:

The Metro is very convenient if your class is at the Foggy Bottom campus of GW. The Foggy Bottom station is pretty much in the middle of the school.

Arlington is right across the street from the Rosslyn stop. The HRCC is about a 10 minute walk to the Crystal City stop (or the Hyatt shuttle bus can take you there every half hour).

Both are pleasant, though nothing extra special. The CC is a little bigger with larger public areas.

richee has given you good advice. If the shuttle is not always convenient, it is a bit of a hike from the Hyatt Crystal City to the Metro.

Some of my Government friends stay at the Hyatt Arlington which is almost on top of a Metro station.

We're going to DC as a tourist. Liked the rate offered by Hyatt Arlington.
How is the location of this hotel in terms of being a tourist (I mean with the Mall etc?)
Travelling with a 2 year old.

You'd likely be relying on public transportation during your visit and the hotel is at the Metro Stop (orange line) so you'll be in a great location - as most of the sites are in the vicinity of metro, others can be a quick taxi, walk or bus ride. Note that if you did have a car, parking it can get expensive, so it's not recommended.

Yes, all stations have lifts. Sometimes they aren't exactly at the same place as the regular entrance since they are located for better access to the platforms.

If you are staying at the Hyatt in Rosslyn (Arlington), the easiest way to the lift at the Metro station is to walk (downhill) one block on Wilson. Turn left at Moore Street. Just beyond an elevated walkway, you will see the lift on the right side of the street, opposite from the larger of the two Metro entrances. This lift takes you directly to the upper platform in the station, where you would catch the train headed into DC. The smaller entrance is on Fort Myer Drive and is closer to the Hyatt, but does have stairs.

* food outlets (restaurants, coffee shops) close by (open during weekend/holidays?).
* What is the ticket price for a return to/from DC and how long is the trip?
* How far away is the Hilton Arlington from the Hyatt - some friends will be staying there?
