"Is the beach looking less crowded too?"

It was today, maybe 25% Occ at 3pm:

upper "mini kitchen". Keurig is multi use (holds more than 1 serving of water).

@I 40 wow, these pics are super helpful thank you! I keep checking avail on the Lake Cottages and they are hard to come by leading into Labor Day! Considering the High Sierra 2 bedroom time share units - anyone stay there recently and can comment ?

The timeshare buildings are not close to the lake. About the equivalent of a 2-3 block walk.

I'm confused. Initially you were asking about getting upgraded to a lakeside cottage. Now you seem to imply that you are just going to reserve and pay for one of those since you are asking about the advantages of upper vs. lower cottages.

Thanks @JIMCHI - Since ideally we'd want the Lakeside Cottage plus double room adjacent (for 3 adults) I realize it's unrealistic to rely on an upgrade (even as a Globalist) so we were considering just paying for it. However it's about double the cost of reserving a 2 bedroom timeshare unit so that's on the table too, though thank you for clarifying it's a 2-3 block walk from the lake which I figured. Having never been there, it's hard to visualize everything so these pics have been super helpful!

Agree with @JIMCHI on the hike from the timeshare. The hotel is so much closer and convenient.

If you want 2 bedrooms, and close to the beach access, why not get the lakeside double, and a standard room at the hotel?

Get the lower room and you'll have a balcony the others can walk up to and share. Seems like I see some couples here doing that.

The lakeside room is the meeting place and hang out on the deck during the day/ evening.

@I 40 that's actually a great idea! I hadn't thought of that since I didn't know how close the hotel is to the lakeside cottages but sounds like it's all fairly close. The problem seems to be consecutive nights avail on those lakeside double rooms though! I think we'll have to aim for post Labor Day weekend when things calm down a bit...

From the front entrance of the hotel it is about a 7-8 minute walk to the beach and to the lakeside cottages that are closest to the beach. I don't know how quiet those lakeside double rooms are but they are connecting to the living room/kitchen area of the lakeside cottage. We have stayed in the lakeside cottages many times and we are always quiet but I have seen other cottages where groups hang out and drink. Just a warning if you are sensitive to noise.

I don’t recall this in the past stays but there new policy as stated for upgrades to the cottages per the manger this morning:

“There would also be an upgrade fee associated with it- cottages are considered premier suites, and to be consistent with what we have been offer all Globalists since we reopened, the upgrade fee would be $250/night, as opposed to the full price of $500/night.“

@cbrown - oh that's good to know. So if you book a standard room on points let's say, and the cottage is avail, you could pay $250/night to upgrade to it? Someone also mentioned up-thread that you could request an upgrade to the Lakeview Doubles and if avail they might grant for free (for Globalists...maybe other tiers too?)

If you're interested in this, why don't you phone the front desk manager and ask. Also find out if this is a confirmed upgrade at time of reservation or if it's space available at check-in. That does sound like a good deal if you can do it on a free night stay. Please let us know.

@JIMCHI - they said it's 'based on availability'...

Speaking of - anyone up there right now and can vouch for the smoke situation? Also curious if the crowds and number of people at the beach have decreased now that we're into the second half of Sept. Seems like a great time to go!

I left there yesterday and it was lovely, most of the smoke had blown away in the strong winds on Friday. The beaches are way less crowded compared to when we were there mid August, although they are still popular on the weekends.

There is no way of telling ahead of time how bad the smoke will be. We live down the hill near Auburn and Thursday we were socked in with smoke, Friday was perfectly clear (the first time in about 3 weeks), yesterday was quite smoky and today is just fair. It all depends upon which way the wind blows. I just think it's chancy to visit Tahoe right now. A few days ago Incline Village had very high AQI readings.

Thank you @JIMCHI for that honest response. It's the same down here in LA so I understand what you're saying...what a drag!
