Using points to upgrade to a suite

Is it best to already have the reservation made, or do they need to find a special rate to book it?

When redeeming Regency/Grand Club Upgrades or Suite Upgrades at a resort property, you must pay a minimum of the prevailing deluxe rack rate (such as partial ocean view, ocean view, slope view, etc.). At non-resort properties you must pay a minimum of the prevailing rack rate.

goingnow,

most posts by UpgradeMe seem to be of the caustic variety and never really seem to answer any questions directly.

Hmmmmmmmmmm, I see you resurfaced and your big contribution to the Hyatt forum is to insult a regular poster.

Coming from a post stalker, your comment is rich, indeed.

I usually have my travel agent make the resevation and then call the Diamond line to ask for the suite upgrade. They will adjust the rate if the upgrade is confirmed so there is some advantage to not just booking the rack rate in case you can't confirm the upgrade. Often reservations has to message the hotel and it takes a day to confirm. Unless it is a very busy time (convention or special event), I usually get the requested upgrade confirmed with a day or two.

For international properties where discounts are small (and rooms are often small, too!), this is my favorite benefit. Domestically you can often get rates that are so much cheaper than rack that the upgrade doesn't make sense.

Mary2e, I didn't insult the poster, merely pointed out the obvious. Nice to be back too. Thanks for caring so much.
