Florida recommendations
 

I'm planning a holiday in Florida (most likely in autumn) with a mix of
- sightseeing (I'll rent a car 4 driving 2 Everglades, Key West, Space center, Dali museum) and
- relaxing (nice beach, quiet location, excellent service, good status recognition).

Which Hyatts do U recommend 2 stay at? I'm Diamond (and Starwood Platinum which would be my backup).

Our favourite Hyatt in FL is Coconut Point.

I would second that. The criteria sounds exactly like Coconut Pointe.

Some of the rates I've seen at Coconut Pointe also make it one of the best values of any of the Hyatt Resorts. ^

At Miami area (for a base to visit Everglades Nat'l Park), Coral Gable Hyatt - an older but quite elegant Hyatt.

Key West - there are several Hyatt properties - they are the time-sharing properties but have day rate to rent. usually comes in 1 bedroom suite.

To visit Space center, you probably would base at Orlando. Grand Cypress would be a very nice choice.

Dali Museum - at St.Pete - so your Hyatt would be Grand Hyatt at Tampa.

As for Coconut Points - it is a very nice Hyatt Resort - but it doesn't fit into any one of those activities you want to do - if you look at its location on the Florida map. However, it would be excellent for relaxing, doing nothing but lazying on quiet beach (though far from a very nice beach).

I hope people making suggestions would really put an effort to address the OP's questions and needs rather than simply put in one's own preferences.

Hyatt Grand Cypress is very nice.

Not sure where you are going to the beach. Hyatt Pier 66 Ft. Lauderdale is near (but not on) the beach.

But none of them compare to the Westin Diplomat.

This is an interesting comment since part of the posters criteria was relaxing (nice beach, quiet location, excellent service, good status recognition). and the suggestion of Coconut Point would meet this criteria very well.

And the only property that was suggested that meets these criteria on Happys list would be the Timeshares in Key West. And while these do have the Hyatt name on them, they will not earn you any GP points, stay credits, amenities, or other status recognition.

There is not a single perfect Hyatt property in Florida that will meet all the criteria. If your main focus is to relax, then look at the Resorts at Coconut Point or Key West. Otherwise you should determine which area of Florida you are most interested in.

Just out of curiosity, since I have not been to any of those - how would they compare to the Hilton Fontainebleau, if you have been there? That is kind of my reference point when it comes to comparing hotels in Florida...

The OP gave a list of things he wanted to do. Therefore, I think people should make suggestions based on his list of interests. He then can look further.

The areas the OP is interested in, almost covering 1/2 of the Florida from Central (Space Center) to the most southern tip (Key West). Hence, there are should be a list of hotels, instead of one. I dont know you dont earn any credit or point at Hyatt Key West properties.

Personally I dont really care much about Key West. There is hardly any beach to speak of at Key West, if going to nice beaches is one of the objective. It is not a quiet location either. However, it has some mythical appeal to many people, and a visit at least once may be good.

Since the OP expresses interest in Dali Museum which is located at St. Petersburg, and practically right next to Tampa. Grand Hyatt Tampa is a very nice property with excellent service and a relax atmosphere. St.Petersburg/Clearwater area has one of the biggest, whitest beaches in Florida. http://www.floridasbeach.com/

Coconut Pointe property is very nice, but the beach Hyatt ferry you to, aint the nicest beach in the area, let alone other parts of Florida. Sorry, for many people that may be a nice enough beach - until you have opportunities see many other Florida beaches, that is. There is definitely no comparison to the beaches at St.Petersburg/Clearwater.

Hyatt Pier 66 at Fort Lauderdale is nice property too. Much smaller than Grand Cypress or Coconut Point. But it is great to watch mega yachts and cruise ships coming and going. It is not on the beach but a cab ride of may be 5-6 bucks will bring you to Ft. Lauderdale beach. Not sure if hotel has a shuttle. I forgot to list it because it is not on the beach. This property treats Diamond very well too, choices of amenity upon check-in, breakfast coupon given at the same time as hotel has no RC. Nice spread of breakfast buffet at the lobby cafe.

It is truly amazing that Hyatt has not one property in Florida which is on a nice beach. Almost every other chain does. The beaches are one of the nicest and most popular features of Florida. Key West Hyatt claims to have a beach but it's not much bigger than your beach towel.

Key West basically has very little beach areas
 

People going to Key West for the beach would be disappointed. It doesn't have decent beach, period. The only OK beach area is in front of Sheraton, which is quite far away from town where all the happenings are (sunset, street performers, museums, restaurants & bars, etc)

Florida Keys where there are nice beaches are all in the upper keys, such as Key Largo, Marathan, and outlying islands in the upper keys.

I actually like the Coconut Point beach --the fact that its private and secluded and only accessible by hotel ferry makes it unique. While it's not the widest, whitest FL beach, it's a great place with nice ammenities ...and great shelling opportunities :)

I agree with the other posters --Coconut Point is my favorite FL Hyatt. The Tampa resort is nice, but Coconut Point has excellent service and very nice rooms...both for an affordable price. It's not exactly near the attractions you want to visit (Space Coast, Key West, etc.) but may be worthy of a few nights' stay while your trekking across the Sunshine State.

I agree with the previous poster that Coconut Point is the best Hyatt Resort in Florida.Grand Cypress is certainly much bigger, but lacks the beach and a big heated pool, otherwise the resort grounds are simply amazing, probadly impossible to buy so much real estate these days for a hotel in Orlando, Omni had to build their property to far away from the action.

The Coconut Point island is indeed nice, but can become crowded on weekends and during the high season, so one should make sure to catch the early boat at 9.45 a.m.
Another option would be to take the boat for the Pelican Landing community, which is much faster.
The whole resort is really outstanding, beautiful art in every corner, a nice Regency Club and some really nice rooms.We requested a corner room there last week, which has three balconies ( one from the bathroom ) and is very light.
Servive throughout our stay was outstanding and we really enjoyed our visit.
Another plus is the 24 hour gym and the parking garage, which keeps the car cool.
