Modifying reservation to add additional free night

Does anyone have experience booking a free night award and then later calling to extend the reservation by an additional free night? Is this allowed as long as the new night has award availability?

I’m asking because I expect to earn additional free nights this year, but ideally want to go ahead and secure a Thanksgiving Day booking (with pre/post Turkey day nights to be added to the reservation later).

If there is availability just make a new reservation for the additional nights you desire.
When you arrive at the property just tell them you have a couple of individual reservations.

If all the nights are not available when you go to re book the option mentioned above is your only option. You can't count on awards being put back into inventory when they are cancelled. You always want to make the new reservation before canceling the old one and it doesn't sound like you have the points/awards.

Considering you are using Free Night Certificates that means no SUA or CAA is being used which would mean the easiest and best way to complete your request is simply to book the additional nights separately. If you were using a SUA ( Suite Upgrade Award) then a rebooking would be necessary.

why would you say a rebooking is necessary?

Currently in GH Tampa. i had originally booked 4 nights with TSU. We then decided to come 2 days earlier but keep the original checkout date.
my MHC simply booked a 2nd reservation for the 2 days and wrote back „ We will use the same TSU“.

Must have a good MHC mine will not bend the rules in any way as I’ve tried this several times (adding an additional day before or after the originally booked stay). If you call the Glob Line or even Twitter you’ll find that’s what they will say is needed, a rebooking.

Not sure why you’d run off on a tangent as stated above OP is using Free Night Certificates which cannot be combined with a Suite Award so it’s nonsensical to continue on that tangent.

Running off a tangent? I believe you ran off a tangent, as you brought up the usage of a TSU, which officially, as you also state, cannot be used with a Free Night Certificate,. You continue to confuse me over and over again with your posts.

OP mentions free night award, which can be points, hence a TSU can be used. The original post does not specify if the free night is e,g. A cat1-4 award or points, so my post is absolutely valid.

I was just clarifying my reasoning for my post to the community in a short snippet, by responding and posting anecdotal information that’s running off on a tangent.

The vast majority of people consider a “free night award” to be a Category Certificate. OP even stated they may earn more later in the year, which implies a Category Certificate as well.

No need to continue diluting the thread by either of us as it serves no purpose.
