Qualifying nights when walked&comped?

I'm being asked by a Hyatt Regency to cancel my award reservation due to hotel being closed on the night for a government/official visit. They are offering me a stay at an SLH property (this is all before May 15th SLH/Hyatt divorce). They are also offering to pay for the stay at SLH and I'll get points refunded. So basically a free stay. The only weird part is them asking me to cancel myself.

My question is: will I earn a qualifying night for this stay if they are paying for the stay? They are saying yes, but no points earned (which I'm fine with). I just want to confirm qualifying night will post since I'm in a middle of a Globalist challenge (20 nights within 90 days) so every night is super important to reach this goal.

Since it’s points that’s the reason they want you to cancel. As long as you have it all in writing via email then you’ll get credit for the stay, assuming it’s before May 15th which you said it will be.

Worst case scenario if you have it in writing just contact Hyatt at [email protected] providing proof of the situation and they’ll add the EQN to the stay, but should go smoothly.

You’re also getting a free stay which is amazing and with advance notice plus get to stay at an SLH.

The hotel needs you to cancel because you spent points. Hotels can't just go around cancelling award stays...

I have my doubts that the SLH stay will be booked in a way that gets you the elite night credit. But worst case scenario - assuming that WoH doesn't add your elite night later - is you take the money saved from your totally free night and just mattress run another Hyatt during your challenge.

It was only 6500 points so I would probably need to spend a bit more to mattress run it when I'm back in the US. It could still be net positive if I actually do a real weekend trip. But I hope I get a qualifying night since they said they'll attach my WOH number to the reservation.

Then that’s a steal since there’s no SLH in the world at Cat 2!

Aww, I’ve only stayed on standard or off peak.

Very interesting, I asked quite a few people when SLH was announced to be leaving what the lowest Category one was everyone said Cat 3. Good to know!
