Definitely a devaluation for N America, but still not as bad as a purely rate-based system. Andaz SD is my least favorite of all the Hyatt and IHG hotels in the area and they almost never had weekends available, so no big loss there. AI/AMR is the biggest loser here. I'm glad I got to book 5 nights at Secrets Impression Moxche for 25k while I could. I knew that was too good to last, but seeing any hotel double in points overnight is always bad. The 50K ceiling demonstrates that Hyatt points are losing their value quickly.

The Cape and tommie Austin are still worth the points despite the increases. Glad MGH survived, but as many have noted award availability has gotten pretty slim lately.
I still want to checkout El Capitan, which dropped to Cat 2. Not too many low cat. stays in SoCal

Just booked this hotel on a cash rate yesterday for an April stay. Will switch it over to a points rate now!

Looking only at the US changes, it seems like they are effectively getting rid of single properties at lower categories than all other properties in major cities. For example, HP San Diego/Carlsbad was the only Cat 2 property in San Diego. Same thing with HH Cypress/Anaheim (only Cat 2 in LA area), and HP Austin Airport (only Cat 1 in Austin). Overall, really terrible for decent Category 1 redemptions.
On an unrelated note, the HP ABQ airport has no business being a Cat 2 hotel.

As always this is HORRIFIC for California. Mar Monte 5->6, Squaw Creek 6->7, Andaz San Diego 4->5. Losing options for my Cat 4 cert though I guess it is still good at Hyatt LAX (shhh!)
I do find it hilarious that pathetic HR Maui keeps going up, I gather there is no shortage of kettles cashing in points here.

Is this the worse devaluation in recent memory? I feel like I should only spend cash for North American stays and even then, the value has to be there. Dollar for dollar, I find I get better treatment in Asia like Singapore than in San Francisco or New York City.

Cannot BELIEVE the HP Stockyards Fort Worth is going up from a Cat 3 to 4. It was already way overpriced to begin with. Total sh*thole of a hotel, but I guess the demand is there thanks to the location.
A little hurt about The Cape going from 6 to 7, so I just booked a stay there during the low season in September. 21k points a night is a real bargain, especially with a TSU thrown in for good measure.
Secrets Moxche going from 25k to 50k is INSANE. Luckily (depending on one's perspective) I have two very young kids and won't be staying there any time soon.

Damn.. grand Hyatt and Hyatt regency Bali both going up to cat 2, they were a steal at cat 1. Andaz San Diego was a great property to redeem the cat1-4 cert too..
last year they raised Hyatt regency manila and Valencia from cat 2 to cat 3. All my favorite low cat hotels are slowly disappearing..
