Hyatt House Sacramento Midtown REVIEW - MASTER THREAD
Looks like this hotel just opened up today. Plan to visit in the next couple weeks to check it out. Looking forward to giving the restaurant/bar a shot.
Article from Sacramento Bee (may be paywalled)
"When midtown Sacramento’s Hyatt House opened Thursday morning, it wasn’t just the debut of a sleek new hotel in a 95-year-old building.
It was the unveiling of the first restaurant and bar looking into another city landmark: Sutter’s Fort."
Looks like a Chef from Sacramento's hottest hotel- The Sawyer (a Kimpton property) will be helming the 3rd story Star Lounge restaurant.

Anxious to try this new property, so booked a Saturday stay after arriving at SMF instead of driving straight home that night. Cash rate, chose lowest level room, and hoping an upgrade will be offered. No mention on the website of the cost for valet parking--need to inquire about that. Wondering if breakfast will be better than the typical HH offerings. From the hotel web site, "Enjoy a chef-inspired entree from our rotating breakfast menu, pick up groceries or snacks at our 24-hour Guest Market, or meet friends for drinks at Star Lounge, all within Hyatt House Sacramento / Midtown." Really wish there was a Hyatt close to SMF.

Looks like a great option, arguably the most appealing location in Sacramento. Too bad it wasn't done as a full service property (e.g., Centric).

About to check out from our single night.
So the Star Lounge, along with the historic front of the building are the obvious highlights here. Rooms amd breakfast are typical of every other Hyatt House.
Full review to follow soon.

I loved this new property! I did not find it to be a typical HH or HP. The Star Lounge food, although a bit limited, was delicious (serves happy hour 3-6 p.m,, lunch and dinner.). I used this property for an early morning flight out of SMF, it's 10 miles away. It was the same price as the run-down airport IHG, Hilton properties, which I intensely dislike (especially at $200/night). Valet parking at this downtown HH is $35/night so that's a bit of a negative for an airport stay; but evidently the meters in front are free 6 p.m. to 8 a.m. I wimped out because of the pouring rain and wind--paid for valet (did not get points). Upgraded (without asking) to a very nice room with a kitchen, including dishwasher, stove top, medium frig, no outside noise. Big enough for two but probably no more. Love the historic brick, nicely updated, wood floors, with a boutique feel (like a Centric IMO). Star Lounge restaurant (where breakfast is served) has that same feel. Breakfast starts at 6:30 but I wanted to leave for the airport around that time, so just grabbed coffee. Food looked decent, like your typical lower scale HR buffet; definitely better than a HP. I would stay here again when downtown. Finally noticed/saw the new HH closer to the airport. It's on the other side of the I-5 from the aforementioned rundown chains, approx 5 miles from SMF. Can hardly wait for that to open, it looked close to being ready for business.

Another positive stay here, again staying the night prior to a morning flight at SMF. Forgot to previously mention there's the 500 point bonus because it's a new Hyatt property. Dinner in the Star Lounge did trigger points. This time booked a rate that included valet parking so I'd at least get a few extra points (rate wasn't any savings on $34 parking). Dinner was very good, although no happy hour specials on weekends--happy hour is definitely the way to go. All staff here are super friendly. Upgraded without asking to top floor room with a kitchen, like my previous stay. Was able to try the breakfast this time--food not too exciting plus they seemed short-staffed. Lots of families on Monday morning (I guess because it was the start of Easter vacation), but there was plenty of seating in Star Lounge. Noticed many restaurants around the block with waiting lines even at 5:00 on a Sunday evening, so assuming they are good.

Depends on what your definition of what good is. Park the car on the street overnight? Possibly no. Walk around during the day? I'm fine. Walk around at night? Depends. There are some restaurants around the corner with long lines to get in, so those people evidently feel safe. It's no better or worse than the other two downtown Hyatts. I have not heard any sirens here.

Reporting back on my stay. I previously stayed twice at the Hilton Tapestry Collection property that is two blocks away (the Fort Sutter Hotel), and still immensely prefer this Midtown location in Sac to staying downtown. The immediate neighborhood is very quaint, walkable, and there are a ton of bars and restaurants within walking distance. On Saturdays, there is also a great outdoor street fair that runs down 20th street, a few blocks away.
On the property itself-- probably the most impressive looking lobby area and bar/restaurant of any Hyatt House, but I agree that the rest of the property is standard Hyatt House, including the breakfast offerings. (Breakfast is served in the restaurant, so at least the surroundings are gorgeous as you eat the powdered eggs
) No points earned on drinks at the bar (or on the $35/night valet).
If you don't need to be in and out a lot, self parking at the Sutter Community Garage adjacent to the Fort Sutter Hotel may be a cheaper option.
Keep in mind a significant minority of rooms (at least from what I could discern from the floor plan) are base level "Den" rooms, which is where I stayed. While I didn't need the kitchen facilities for a weekend leisure stay, I couldn't help but think that the room was quite compact and I'd much prefer to be in a typical Hyatt Place room that would have been bigger.
I'm guessing the developer wanted a select service property for this location (vs say a Hyatt Centric, which the lobby and restaurant could totally be part of), but also wanted the flexibility of offering extended stay rooms for long term visitors to the nearby hospital system, and the odd Hyatt House model of billing itself as extended stay but also letting city center properties put in non extended stay rooms, was a good solution.
