Its waterfront location is probably the reason for this otherwise unremarkable hotel’s extraordinarily high rates. And management probably doesn’t want to “give away” these pricey views as upgrades.

Booked: standard king room

Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach Resort and Spa
Booked 6 nights Waikiki city view
Received Diamond Head Ocean view, high floor
This seems to be the standard for me unless I can find Family Suite availability and use an upgrade certificate to secure this. No free suite and nothing better than a Family Suite when using certs. Not a complaint, we do enjoy this hotel for their value as a Diamond.

Lucky had pictures of the Regency Executive in his recent review, and I agree, the plain Regency Suite is more desirable for both view and layout (IMO).

Hyatt Regency Birmingham UK
1 night July
Booked: Standard King Room (corporate cash rate)
Received: Executive Suite (904 sq ft top floor premium suite with canal view)
Not bad for $120/night in a great location. First Hyatt I've ever stayed at that actually had the Regency Club open too.

Grand Hyatt Washington DC
Interesting email from a manager after I noted a repeated lack of upgrades even with standard suite availability showing. Curious to see if this leads to any difference.
“Suite upgrades are often difficult especially at this property to secure as we only have 26 suites in almost 900 room hotel. I completely understand your frustration with us. I will note on your reservation your preference for a suite upgrade for this reservation.
This should be offered at check in absolutely.”

Had a number of Globalist upgrades in South Korea & Singapore in May/June.
- Grand Hyatt Jeju: Standard King → Premier Suite King (extremely nice suite!, fri check-in, 4 nights)
- Park Hyatt Seoul: Standard King → Park Suite King (dated, only thing that stood out is the iconic view of samsung-dong, sun check-in, 2 nights )
- Grand Hyatt Incheon: Standard King → Grand Corner Deluxe Exec Suite (very impressive for an airport hotel suite, th check-in, 1 night)
- Andaz Singapore: Standard King → King Bay View Deluxe (unfortunately, no studio suite kings avail on sat check-in, 2 nights)
