Hyatt Place Montréal Downtown - MASTER REVIEW THREAD
Just saw that the official page for Hyatt Place Montréal Downtown has come online! This will be Hyatt's first hotel in Québec since the former Hyatt Regency at Complexe Desjardins became a DoubleTree, and is a startlingly nice conversion of the very dumpy, former Hotel Place Dupuis on Rue Saint-Hubert.
Opening and taking reservations from October 27th, 2021; rates on opening night are 153 CAD. Page accessible here: https://www.hyatt.com/en-US/hotel/ca...downtown/yulzm khabah |
I'm glad to see a Hyatt property in Montreal. They don't seem to have settled on a category (based on the pricing, it feels like it'll be a Category 3, but that's just a guess).
The location isn't horrid, either...if the Queen Elizabeth is stupidly expensive and the weather isn't horrid (i.e. not in winter), I'll consider this property as an alternative since it looks like it is simply a few stops on the Metro from Gare Centrale. |
This is the old Hotel Gouverneur right? Honestly it’s not the best area but it is not bad either. The surrounding blocks are starting to get gentrified. I can see this place doing big business when the Grand Prix comes back due to having a big hotel chain name.

This area is really not where I would want to stay as a tourist.... Montreal's current homeless crisis is centered around this hotel and another public square near Atwater.
The Doubletree (RIP Hyatt Montreal) is a much better location |
This was originally supposed to open in November, 2021. Then it was pushed to mid February, 2022. Now the landing page says it's taking reservations for June 19th, 2022.
 |

I booked a stay last Nov and was offered a relocation, but later decided to just cancel.
Should only be a brand change and surprised to see it takes that long. |

I thought it was more than just a brand change. And wasn’t it used as a homeless shelter?

I mean, haven't plenty of otherwise mainstream hotels in CA, NY, etc., been used as homeless shelters in the past 2 years?
However it wasn't a just reflag. Before photos as Hotel Gouverneur Place Dupuis https://www.oyster.com/montreal/hote...puis-montreal/ To be photos as Hyatt Place https://www.hyatt.com/en-US/hotel/ca...wn/yulzm/rooms |

Should only be a brand change and surprised to see it takes that long. This hotel was in pretty poor condition the last time i saw it ( a friend was staying there 3 years ago) I used to stay there regularly before I got into the points and mile game. Not a great location for most business folks/ conventioneers. It was used by the Gouveneur chain mainly for tour groups and small business gatherings. I look forward to staying there next fall It was used as a homeless shelter last year while it was being renovated. |
Booking a stay but on full prepaid reservations
Trying to book a stay in July but the website is only allowing me to book a full prepaid reservation. No option to book a free cancellation stay. Any ideas?
When is the Hyatt Centric in Montreal going to open? Website says early 2022 and would like to be able to book the Centric if it opens up soon. |

https://blog.mtl.org/en/AIDS-2022 39,000 room nights projected...pretty big event! At the same time is Just For Laughs, the largest comedy festival in the world and draws 2M attendees (granted, many from within the metro) Between these two events I'd say the hotel will be fully booked pretty soon, probably as the Just For Laughs performance schedule gets announced. https://www.hahaha.com/en/calendar |
