Thompson Chicago or CAA?
I have a weekend trip booked for next month and am looking to burn some of my many 1-4 certs. For those that have stayed at either or both, WWYD? I'm pretty familiar with Chicago so I know they're in completely different parts of the city (I lived at the old Conrad, now The Gwen, in River North for a couple months a few years ago).
The room rates are high for both, so assuming amenities are back to normal, what is the recommendation? I like the location of the CAA more than the Thompson, but I was just at the Thompson in San Antonio and thought it was fantastic. I'm a globalist, FWIW. My current plan is to stay at one of the very few remaining generic Hyatt properties for my first night to get the brand explorer credit on a Thursday and then move downtown for Fri/Sat.

I am looking at the same two for a stay in a few weeks, do both hotels provide full service breakfast currently? Just returned from GH SF, all bars / dining closed.

Another burning a cert in Chicago thread here with some recent comments regarding the Thompson and CAA:
Park Hyatt or Chicago Athletic association?
Other recent Thompson comments here (mostly seem to be "don't stay":

Check the thompson chicago thread for my thoughts on the hotel right now, which is the same as a lot of others. There isn't anything really being offered outside of free coffee. Never been to the CAA, seems too antique for my liking.

Another FTer just stayed at the Thompson in San Antonio and he hosted drinks and I was really impressed with the property. The other perk of staying at the Thompson is I need it for my brand explorer checkbox. I'm planning to come in late on a Thursday so will probably stay at the rather rare generic "Hyatt" by ORD, another brand I need. Wish these properties would get their act together with regard to breakfast and such!

I'm staying at the Chicago Athletic Association now. As a globalist they pre upgraded me to a junior suite that is quite spacious. They are giving full room service Breakfast from 7 to 10 a.m. and their facilities look great. Location is awesome right across from Millennium Park. As I type this I am regretting it because I want to keep this a secret. Lol.

I stayed at the Thompson in October with a Prive rate, when they were providing breakfast in the restaurant or in the room. The hotel itself was nice but nothing special. I was upgraded to a corner lakeview room, which has a pretty good view facing the lake and Miracle Mile (lake was more of a peekaboo, between other buildings). The location was OK, but it was a bit of a hike to get to the L train. If I were to return, I would definitely check out the CAA (which was closed during my last trip).
