Alila Napa Valley REVIEW MASTER THREAD

As I mentioned in another thread yesterday, Hyatt disclosed during a call I was on yesterday that a new Alila will be opening in the next couple months. Since the website is now up, I guess the cat is out of the bag. This is a conversion of the Las Alcobas Napa which was a Luxury Collection Resort by Marriott. Per the page on Alila, this property is scheduled to open in March.

"Alila Napa Valley in St. Helena, California is a 68-room adults-only retreat will feature personalized hospitality that celebrates the authenticity of one of the world’s most famous wine regions."

Cat 7 or 8?

Beautiful hotel in a great location with an excellent restaurant. I stayed there under the Marriott banner and look forward to returning.

I think it will have to be a Cat 7 given the prior rates and I don't believe any properties other than SLH hotels can be Cat. 8 for now. The suites at the hotel were wonderful, so hopefully the TSU-eligible suite is one of the true suites.

Agreed ... As long as Ventana Big Sur is a Cat 7, I don't see this being higher. Cash rates should be lower here, except possibly for fall weekends during harvest (the worst time to visit Napa IMHO).

Slightly OT - but why is fall a bad time in Napa? Is it just much more crowded then, or are there other things that make you say this? Hoping to get out there sometime this year, and want to make sure I know all I can before planning it...

I think fall is gorgeous, but it is a) crowded and b) runs risk of fire season. On a nice weekend in the fall though, Napa is perfect

This hotel is also beautiful and had a great experience here in 2019, thrilled to see it reopening

Fire in the fall, rain in wet winters.

And it is definitely more crowded in september between harvest (lots of wineries host events for their club members), bottle rock music festival one weekend, and it's warm but not hot (usually)

It is crowded, and that impacts traffic, dining, and prices. It's also a very busy time for the wineries. When I visit, I look forward to spending time with a winery principal or someone on the winemaking team. From August through October (usually), they are in the vineyards determining when to pick or in the winery preparing for or working crush and getting the wine into barrels or tanks. Things quiet down dramatically in November and December, although the weather can be grey and wet. My favorite time to visit is in the spring. Rain is still a possibility but the valley is beautiful in March and April as the hills turn green and the mustard blooms. It's a relatively quiet time for the wineries so it's possible to have some quality visits and the crowds should be smaller. Not much help for this year, I know ...

I think the only actual Hyatt property that is a Cat 8 is Kukui'ula (Destination Hotel).

This Alila property is a great addition, and agree it will probably be a 7.

Alila properties:

California: 3
49 other states: 0

Maybe Alila is actually short for C-Alila-fornia.

Funny as I'd thought about staying at Los Alcobas over the Andaz last time I was in Napa. Good to see this addition.
