Interpreting cancellation policy

Hi all,

We’re looking at booking a room at the GH Kauai on points and the cancellation policy is kind of confusing. How does everyone interpret this:

Two Night Deposit.Cancel 24h Prior To Avoid One Night Penlty”

I’m reading this as, cancel anytime 24 hours prior to check in and get your points back. I also don’t see the property listed on Hyatt’s waiver list - https://www.hyatt.com/info/waiver-exceptions-list. However, I could also read this as, “cancel anytime and lose 2 night deposit”.

So I think this is subject to Hyatt’s more flexible up to 24 hour cancellation policy?

how I read this generally speaking: 2 nights deposit charged to your cc upon booking, you can cancel anytime up to 24hours and receive a full refund. If you cancel within 24 hours, 1 night would be refunded.

Since this is a points booking, there is no charge to your CC, since the points are „the charge“. You will receive full refund 24 hours prior to arrival, if withing 24 hours you would receive full refund of the points and be charged a one night cash amount to your CC, typically the standard rate of the room booked.

I had asked my Concierge about this on an SLH booking on points with 14 day cancellation policy and that was her answer. I do not see a difference between a Hyatt property or an SLH property.

hope this helps :)

Hyatt's cancellation policy messaging is notoriously inconsistent and difficult to interpret.

Personally, I read this as you need to put down a deposit of two nights (refundable) and you need to cancel 24+ hours before your check in time otherwise you're charged one night.

Why the deposit is two nights and the cancellation policy is one night? Who knows.

Best to message Twitter and ask them to confirm so you have it in writing.
