In my experience it's not completely straightforward to pay with these gift cards.

True ... I checked out of a HR last Monday and wanted to use a $100 e-gift card, from the 40 night milestone, to pay my bill. The front desk agent had no idea of how to apply it, and the first person she asked gave her bad instructions. It took about 20 minutes to check out. I would have thought these would be more common, and the staff better trained, since the roll-out of the milestone awards.

True, it does take a bit of time!

Well tried purchasing two, but because they needed to be seperate transactions to trigger the discount the website seems to have deemed it as fraudulent. Oh well.

I've seen posts that these don't code as Hyatt for purposes of the bonus on the Chase Hyatt cards, but how about the 3x on travel category cards like the Chase Sapphire?

Here's the description on my CapOne statement:

Hyatt-Buyata 8666685702 604-678-3275 DE 19801 US

You would need the merchant code.

We had a 10-day Kauai visit with multiple rooms in the middle of this. There is a Costco in Kauai, so spent $8000 on $10,000 worth of certificates and happily took a $2000 savings. I did feel bad about the front desk person who had to process all those so brought a little gift with the huge stack of certificates.

Chase codes as “Merchandise & Services” not travel.

My two experiences have been the same. Horrible IT.

Deal dead??

I just tried inputting WINTER19 for a $600 GC and it said invalid promotion.
OP’s post had this a running from Dec 2-20

edit: never mind - it is Dec 20-23 (very handy for me as we touch down at the Andaz Papagayo on the 20th)

Can I use these gift cards to pay for the cash portion of a P+C award?
