Alila Jabal Akhdar, Oman REVIEW - MASTER THREAD

I could not find a thread about this yet here, I have tried multiple dates on this property for award bookings and all came back as not possible, has anyone managed to do it? also what benefits are there for elite members?

I just tried a couple of 2 day periods in December and January and "Mountain View" rooms were available for 25K points.

The Alila brand is fully integrated into WoH, meaning all WoH benefits and earning should apply.

Alila from my understanding joined WOH after SLH so I’m not understanding why you get all WOH benefits there, but not at SLH.

SLH properties are not Hyatt properties; Alila properties are.

I have just made a points reservation there for 3 nights and was able to confirm a suite upgrade to a Jabal terrace suite using one of my TSUs. The rate includes breakfast and dinner. Our trip is still many months out but I figured I'd share this, since there is little information available about reward bookings at this property.

Has someone been to both this property and Al Maha? I am curious how they compare.

I just visited in both hotels in a row. Al Maha is way better than Alila, the only tie is about the view, the view in Al Maha is desert view and the Alila has mountain view which is also breathtaking. However, I visited in Dec and both property are fully booked, but in Al Maha you won't feel as crowded as in Alila, I am sure you will have better experience in low season

Thanks for the feedback. Al Maha is one of my all-time favorites so it will be tough to beat, but I might give Alila a try in 2020. Based on your input I will keep reasonable expectations about Alila.

Visited Jabal Akhdar with the wife over Christmas on an award booking: points+Suite Upgrade Award.
  • Fell in love with Oman (our first visit)
  • Muscat airport is brand new and GORGEOUS. A million times nicer than any airport I have ever seen in the US.
  • Very safe country, extremely low crime rate, no one trying to rip you off.
  • Road to the Alila, a 2.5 hour trip from airport, last half was in the middle of nowhere, and was better built than most I have seen anywhere in USA.
  • No trash on roadside, no graffiti anywhere in town or in the country
  • The Alila was fully booked over the holidays, regardless, we experienced what we feel was exceptional service.
  • It is easy to come to know many employees and management by name during your stay.
  • It is spectacular location, views, hiking.
  • As Globalists, I thought we were treated exceptionally well, in multiple situations, throughout our stay.
All in all, I did not expect to find Oman nearly as attractive and enchanting as I did. Beautiful, peaceful, honest people all of whom LOVE their leader (The Sultan). A sterling example what can be when good people with an iron clad grip on government and power can accomplish. Maybe however the only example of this in the world, I don't know.

We are looking forward to another visit, maybe in the fall and tie in a visit to the soon-to-open (approx summer) Alila Salaleh in the south of Oman.

Fun fact- Oman built and own a majority stake in these Alila's via their government investment fund. They want to transition their economy from oil to first-class eco-tourism.

That's Alila on top right of photo. Stunning setting.

Wild, crazy stuff.

Did you drive to Alila, hired a driver or had the hotel arrange it for you?

I had the hotel arrange to/from airport and also a side excursion on a different day to Niswa Souk and Fort. Not inexpensive but happy with the value and drivers were very careful. On the next trip with the benefit of experience I would be willing to get an international drivers license and rent a car. I would not suggest this on your firs trip, you'll see why

I live in Oman and we go up to Alila occasionally (renting a 4x4 from the airport) its not that easy nor that hard but you MUST have a 4x4 to get up there..You can also drive to the base and get a 4x4 to take you up the mountain which might be more cost effective.
