Daily Getaway

Damn someone is quick. 12:58 refreshed/refreshed/..... until the sale was on and it was all sold out in a second. Is there a trick?

I managed to snag the 24K pts one, because that one had the most inventory. I didn't bother to try the higher options, because I know people would use bots to get those.

I got too greedy. Opened 3 browser windows and tried for 3 packages. Should've just went for the 24k.

I haven't gotten any response at all from the server since shortly before the sale started. Now I get "The service is unavailable."

Exactly at 1:00 I had a bunch of website errors (I'm assuming from thousands of people constantly refreshing), and by the time it came back up, nothing was available.

Was trying for the 40k package, but servers stopped responding a few seconds before 1:00. Went I finally got through, all the packages were in others' carts. Went to the 24k and refreshed for about 10 minutes before a package fell into my lap.

There was a brief discussion in the dailygetaways thread! The point sale contest is now a contest with timing and technology. You need a fast connection and a stopwatch. At 12:59:59 be ready. At 1:00:00 hit refresh with a very high speed connection! Your DSL or Baud modem will not work! Nor will public wifi. Once you hit refresh at 1:00:00 you do so once only and allow it to load! Even if it doesn't seem to work you still wait as hitting refresh yet again will lock you out!. You only refresh if the packages are showing sold out to see if one becomes available! This is how the point collectors do it who are too stingy to use the proper technology. The rest will lie to you and tell you to try the same thing again next year which failed you this year! The definition of insanity is trying the same thing over and over and expecting different results since 2017 when the complaints of a millisecond sell out first occurred! Rather than deal with this those in the know use selenium with Python and it has generally performed precisely as intended. We have reports of 30k and 40k packages successfully obtained as well as one 72k. Regardless, we are satisfied with the results this year as you should not waste your time with point sales on a bidding website that is rather behind the times with regard to e-commerce bidding and sales!

Out of an abundance of generosity, and to save you all time in the future I shall briefly and vaguely explain here how this works:

First: Selenium while not the fastest is the most efficient at the task for the skilled millennial shopper!

Second: There are no captcha requirements or js ajax calls! so scrapy works just as well despite being html based. You can even use WHB-botcreater or if you're not too stingy snag one on fiverr!

Third: We decided to test this via a manual precise time clock on multiple devices had a 12:59:50 lock and 12:59:55 test and a 12:59.59 to 1:00:01 multiple refresh. At precisely 1:00:00 the website refused to properly load on firefox, chrome, and internet explorer across mobile and desktop browsers. At a 1:00:01 to 1:00:02 refresh none of the browsers would load despite several minutes of repeated requests the server was unavailable as all packages were being purchased by the appropriate AI!

You wasted your time indeed and so did the rest of the point collecting crowd. Sorry thanks for playing, hope you all have the common sense to make better use of the limited time left in your lives next time!

Those in the know have all of the packages, and those who are not lazy now know how to properly compete next time around! Here is a tip, better be faster than selenium or get a new hobby!

Amongst other things, the above claim is false. Some of the Hyatt packages grabbed within the first fraction of a second of sale launch and even later than that were grabbed and being purchased by individuals myself included using no AI means. And the 24k package was harder to grab than the two mid-size packages which were grabbed the traditional manual way and done so by well-prepared hands.

Due diligence that includes practice with timing and manual dexterity still work. And I must say that this Hyatt sale on DG worked out better for me this time than it has at previous times.

Could someone find or hire technical specialists and scrips to potentially get an even more efficient means to grab DG packages using cheap AI means? Probably, but it was 100% not a necessity to do so when wanting to grab at least some of these Hyatt points on DG. Did it surprise me? Sort of, especially after losing out on a couple of other prior DG sales of interest to me this year.

Bunch of hogwash.

I got a package without any such methods as you outlined above. I updated a few times and was able to complete my purchase 6 minutes past the hour.

Admittedly the first time in years that I was able to actually profit from this promotional sale but it's simply luck to slide in at the ride time.

Yes, this troll is posting the same nonsense in other threads too.

Congrats on grabbing a package! It seems that many people got them because they went to someone's cart and ended up being unpurchased, and were available again a few minutes later.

Is it actually true bots are grabbing most of the packages?
I heard theories but never heard of anyone actually using bots.

Bots are grabbing some of the packages. There are actual people grabbing the packages as well. Remember these are Hyatt points, so buying these points at a discount is well worth it for a lot of people.

I was able to grab a points package by getting an accurate internet clock, then timing the browser refresh at the offers page as close to 1 PM ET. Once you get in, you have 7 minutes to complete the transaction.

Maybe I profited from that system outage that other folks reported. Not sure but the site was running fine for me the entire time.

Just checked and the points have already been deposited. Quick!

I've seen so many comments on FT and the usual travel blogs of people getting packages that I highly doubt bots are making up a large part here.

Considering the small amount of packages available the amount bots are grabbing appear insignificant.
