Keep in mind the King Villa is the condo-building unit, not the standalone units that actually look like villas.
That said, the King Villa is a great room, it's what I had last time I stayed here and it's what I have reserved for the next 2 trips. 1050 sq feet with a proper separate bedroom. At the time when I booked, they were pricing the King Villa the same as a regular room, which is why I went ahead and booked it (same for my previous stay), but it's good that they're upgrading to them too.

Here now and we extended our stay because it's just a great place and a phenomenal deal. At $288/night when the whole world seems to be "full" these days, we get a spotless 1000sqft suite w/ balcony and separate bedroom, great A/C, free breakfast/parking/resort fee, nightly live music, and plenty of chairs on the beach and by the pool. It's worth the minor negatives (mostly that it isn't quite a 5-star experience, it has a bit of a resort-factory feel, and whatnot).
Can confirm that the floating obstacle course thing is not presently available, didn't ask about plans for its future.

Was the regency club open?

No, the club was closed permanently in January. Reservations booked prior to the January closure were eligible for a $25/day F&B credit, but no longer.
The trade-off is that the breakfast is provided in the restaurant--and while it is a very busy buffet, it's much more extensive than anything you'd get at a western hemisphere lounge. Fruit selection included dragonfruit, passion fruit, berries, cherries, tamarind, etc. Smoked salmon and cheese were decent. And the omelet stand makes whole fried eggs (or over easy, etc.) to order quite well. The row of hot dishes with "standard" stuff like industrial scrambled eggs, bacon, etc., is no good, but there is plenty other stuff to choose from.
Recommend bringing some Yeti or similar cold-cups and just pouring your own cocktails for pool/beach etc. That said, the cocktails at Nectar (the Puerto Rican joint onsite) were fantastic and worth every penny.

thanks for the info! This is such a bummer as we were there in April and they were working on it at the time and told me it was being remodeled and should open by year end.

That's interesting... the space is fully finished out and theoretically functional, and it is used for large groups sometimes. For instance, they had check in for a corporate event there last time... they're just not using it as a club lounge.

They probably realized the ROI isnt there for keeping a club lounge open. Likely not enough people are paying for club access.

I think its more a case that the marginal extra cost to give Globs access to the restaurant buffet is no more than the cost of staffing and operating the lounge. By not having a lounge it also frees up a new space that can be used for other purposes

Back when they had a lounge, it was a fairly meagre offering. I do not think there was much risk of it cannabilizing a lot of F&B revenue.

Had a nice stay here over the weekend. Got upgraded to an ocean front room with a very nice balcony. I did not rent the cabana, and it was fine. Had no trouble finding shaded seats at both the pool and the beach.
We had a very nice meal at Nctar. Prime was good too, but kind of pricey. The breakfast buffet was ok, but the ala carte breakfast took forever. We were literally there for 2 hours before we got our food.
We did not rent a car. Taxi from the airport was $75, no credit cards but she took Venmo. Uber back to the airport was about $50. No trouble finding one at 3:00pm. I wasnt there long enough to miss having a car, but my goal was just to maximize beach/pool time.
I was pleasantly surprised to get a 20% globalist discount on our (very good) massage, and the facility was pretty good. I would have preferred the hot tub be hotter and mixed gender.
All in all it was a nice weekend getaway, and a great value as a cat 4. I wish Id have been able to make more reservations before they increased it to 5.

Keep in mind the cabanas at the pool on the "villa" side (which is really the condo side) are free, first-come/first-served, and IME never crowded.
