So it looks like the Andaz will only upgrade you to a Junior Suite using a suite upgrade.

Not only that, but it'll be on a low floor. They do the "view" modifier for higher floor suites that are otherwise identical.

I pushed the issue and the twitter team miraculously found me an Andaz suite.

I booked a three night stay in a Junior Suite (around 300/nt over a weekend) which was upgraded to an Andaz Suite the day prior to arrival. We were in the northwestern-most suite on the 2nd floor and the room looked exactly like what G-CIVC posted in his great review from 2019 so I wont repost my room pictures. My family really enjoyed the room, theres significant extra space and having the extra half-bath is really nice. We didnt hear any noise from inside or out. We had a great time in Munich and would definitely select this hotel if we return.

Location
I hesitated to pick this hotel because the location didnt seem that central, but we ended up loving it. The neighborhood just to the east is very nice to walk through with lots of little playgrounds and if I had to live in Munich (knowing very little about it) I think Id be very happy in that neighborhood. Its convenient to the English Garden and the tram comes so often the location isnt an issue. I am a big walker and public transit user at home and the transit here was so much more functional than DC that we could get around incredibly quickly.

Pool and Spa
A beautiful space; the pool is open til 6 for children and til 9 for adults. It was heated to around 85F. Its somewhat unique, half pool and half jetted relaxation areas. The spa was also very nice for relaxation.

Breakfast
Of the four hotels weve visited on our current trip, this was by far the best breakfast. Eggs cooked to order and a wide-reaching buffet. My favorite was the shakshuka but also enjoyed the meats and cheeses, great fruit selection, breads, and especially the ground-to-order Nutella maker.

Service
I didnt ask for much and had no issues. We were offered a welcome drink at the bar which we accepted; there was a happy hour daily but we never made it. Staff was friendly and helpful.

Sample of breakfast buffet selections

Eggs-to-order menu; I was happy with the buffet so didnt order any, but providing for reference

Grind-your-own Nutella (before

and after). Delicious!

I have a confirmed upgrade to an Andaz Suite during Oktoberfest this year. Are you telling me that my concierge and the email that Hyatt sent to me confirming it are in error?

No. When I contacted them using my suite award they only wanted to give me a Junior suite. After some back and forth they gave me the Andaz suite. The Junior and Andaz suite are both considered standard suites.

Then I must have gotten lucky. I'm not sure what process you used, but I saw on the website that an Andaz suite was available, I then called my concierge requesting an Andaz suite when I booked the room, she called the property and confirmed the upgrade over the phone and with an email.

They were offering it when I was there in August. I didn't attend so can't comment on it.

I just completed a 5 night Oktoberfest stay there with a confirmed upgrade to an Andaz Suite. I made the mistake of looking at other's FlyerTalk and YouTube reviews of the suites, and was disappointed by what my room selection was like (a common theme for me). My low floor view was of the office building steps away from the hotel, not the Munich skyline. And that office has a direct view into your bathroom/shower/bath, so I had to keep those shades drawn the entire time. Yes, you could step out of the shower and make eye contact with someone working at their desk. So the room ended up very dark, unlike what I was expecting.

In addition, I was hustled at check-in for a "paid" upgrade. I have no idea what room that would have been for, but since I was already in for 100k points and a suite upgrade, I wasn't going to be paying cash on top of that.

On the plus side, the breakfast and the bartenders/servers were amazing, We also enjoyed the pour-your-own happy hour (now 5-6 pm) and spent a lot of time at the rooftop pool, since our room didn't have a view. The location was perfect, right on the tramline that can connect you to everywhere.

The negatives:
- The front desk staff's initial response to any request is "no". I haven't heard that phrase that often since I was a 5 year old getting into trouble. "Can I get change for a large Euro note?" No. "Can I get someone to look at my nonfunctioning minibar fridge?" No. It got old quick.
- Hostess stand at the rooftop restaurant was the same. We walked into a completely empty room the minute it opened. "Can we get a table?" No, they are all reserved. I checked OpenTable and there was full availability all night. After I showed that to her, she begrudgingly gave us a seat in the empty restaurant.
- The minibar was a complete joke. I'm not sure why they are still advertising this as a "benefit". It consisted solely of room temperature single-use glass bottles of water because the fridge didn't work (or was programmed to "save energy", as it was controlled by the hotel's network). That's it. And when trying to get additional bottles, see the first bullet point of this section. Needless to say, I couldn't keep any of the local beer I had purchased cold.
- No ice. No machines/buckets, and requesting it from the front desk would result in a single glass of ice cubes unless, of course, they just say no.

I would love to try again, but I probably wouldn't waste an upgrade. I suppose I would ask for a tower room and when they inevitably say "no", take whatever they will give me. Some of the rooms in the property on the east side have horrific views and receive no direct light. I bet they are darker than tombs.

I am currently here for 3 nights on my Christmas Markets tour. I had used a TSU for an Andaz Suite, which is on the 4th floor, although it's supposed to be 1 of 4 Large Andaz Suite according to the sign explaining the mural, which should be ~1000 ft2. There is no view, since the other building is across the way and we can see into other hotel rooms. The hotel is as nice as I remembered from 2019. If I ever come back, I'll ask for higher floors and not looking into the rooms across the 5th floor skybridge.

The public toilets downstairs are rather fancy, especially the sinks, worth taking a look.

Happy Hour is downgraded from 2019, there are 3 wines, white, red and rose and 1 Pils and 1 alcohol free beer. No appetizers. Not worth the time to even try.

Horrific appears to be a big word for a brand new hotel in one of the better areas of town. True, you may end up in a room looking at the neighbouring building, but it's not like you'd risk looking at the local wast disposal facility. After multiple visits and having received all kinds of room types, I have yet to encounter a room with a "horrific" view in what I consider one of Munich's most appealing hotels.
