World of Hyatt Credit Card benefit details and notes

Anniversary Free Night Award (Category 1-4)
  • Issued 10 weeks after cardmember anniversary date
  • Expires 1 year after issuance
  • Ineligible for use with Club Lounge Access Awards and Complimentary Suite Upgrade Awards
Additional Free Night Award (Category 1-4) with $15k spend
  • The spend counter for this benefit tracks total cumulative purchases during the current calendar year (excluding $95 annual fee and any other non-qualifying transactions).
  • The spend counter for this benefit resets at the beginning of every calendar year. Chase does not make this spend counter visible to customers, so interested customers must calculate their own. Note that this is a separate spend counter from the "Two Additional Night Credits" spend counter below.
  • Issued 1-2 days after statement closing date of the triggering transaction (the transaction causing the spend counter to cross $15k)
  • Expires 1 year after issuance
  • Ineligible for use with Club Lounge Access Awards and Complimentary Suite Upgrade Awards
  • Cardmembers are eligible for only 1 Additional Free Night Award per calendar year (e.g., spending $30k does not result in two Additional Free Night Awards)
Two Additional Night Credits with every $5k spend
  • The spend counter for this benefit tracks total cumulative purchases since account opening (excluding $95 annual fee and any other non-qualifying transactions)
  • This spend counter never resets. Chase does not make this spend counter visible to customers, so interested customers must calculate their own. Note that this is a separate spend counter from the "Additional Free Night Award" spend counter above.
  • Issued 1-2 days after statement closing date of the triggering transaction (the transaction causing the spend counter to cross a multiple of $5k)
  • For World of Hyatt status qualification purposes, the night credits are associated with the transaction date (not the posting date) of the triggering transaction, not the statement closing date. For example, December 2020 transactions with transaction dates during billing cycles ending in January 2021 will count toward the 2020 status year, not 2021.
Other Benefits
  • 4 Bonus Points per $1 spent on purchases at Hyatt hotels
  • 2 Bonus Points per $1 spent on restaurants, airline tickets purchased directly from the airline, local transit and commuting, and fitness club and gym memberships
  • 1 Bonus Point per $1 spent on all other purchases
  • Discoverist status every year
  • 5 qualifying night credits every year
  • No foreign transaction fees
  • Travel & purchase coverage

Other notes and tips

Chase spending tracker
  • The Chase spending tracker is useful for calculating your spend counter for the $15k Additional Free Night Award and your spend counter for the Two Additional Night Credits
  • Chase mobile app: "View all transactions", then switch to the "Spending Summary" tab
  • Chase website: From the account page, in the "Things you can do" menu, choose "Spending Summary"
  • Remember to add spend from prior calendar year(s) as needed (see spend counter notes above), and to subtract $95 annual fee and any other non-qualifying transactions from all years
  • Full list of non-qualifying transactions: returns, refunds, balance transfers, cash advances, travelers checks, foreign currency, money orders, wire transfers or similar cash-like transactions, lottery tickets, casino gaming chips, race track wagers or similar betting transactions, any checks that access your account, interest, unauthorized or fraudulent charges, and fees of any kind, including an annual fee

Annual fee posted Feb 1st. Cert posted yesterday March 30th. ~8 weeks.
This is my only card with a free night cert. But it's annoying how other cards let you use their benefits immediately, or before the first annual fee posts, but Chase gives us a chase for this cert.
Technically then, the first cert cost me $95 x2.

You can thank the people who'd wait for the free night cert to post and then canceled the card to get a refund of the annual fee.

Only if you planned to be one of the above people.

I think waiting 12 months for your first cert is punishment enough. And at $190 for a single night, it's hardly a steal.

Its basically an anniversary retention night, not an annual certificate starting with your first annual fee (which probably you got a sign up bonus to begin with).

If you're looking at it this way, the price goes down every year.

Follow-up: Both statements printed a few days ago, new biz card balance ~$12,000 (SUB minimum spend $7,500, 5 TQN every $10,000), 15 month old personal card balance ~ $1,000 credit decreasing $5,000 increment to ~ $4,400.

Points from both cards posted to WOH account the next day.
Personal card postings were:
- Reward bonus points earned 211 Chase - Consumer Card Spend (everyday spend)
- Reward bonus points earned 843 Chase (5x grocery stores thru 3/31/22)
- Reward bonus points earned -4,828 Chase - Consumer Card Spend (4X Bonus Points Hyatt purchases based on credit of deposit)

Biz card postings were:
- Reward bonus points earned 9,936 Chase - Business Card Spend (everyday spend)
- Reward bonus points earned 8,582 Chase - Business Card Spend (4x Hyatt purchases including ~$1,200 deposit charged to biz card after crediting to personal card)
- Reward bonus points earned 75,000 Chase - Business Card Spend (SUB)

Datapoint: 5 TQN from biz card $10,000 posted in one more day, 2 TQN from 1-2 months ago from $5,000 on personal card NOT deducted (clawed back), WOH points were clawed back (as noted above).

So far, so good. Still (right now) planning to cancel personal card in a month or two and then (re)apply in October or November once it’s been 25 months since prior personal SUB. Gotta call Chase and figure out what to do with credit card balance of negative (credit) $1,000 on a card I don’t plan to use again.

You can request that they send you a check. Don't know if Chase does this but Amex allows you to transfer credit balances to another account that has an outstanding balance as payment, which I personally find simpler than getting a paper check.

You can definitely call for a refund to your bank account. I have done this before with the CSR.

Thank you friedablass and kevinjm, nice timing, just got off the phone with Chase. Per the rep I spoke with, the only option that did NOT involve Chase sending in a day or 2 and my replying to an email was to transfer the credit to another Chase credit card. ACH transfer to my Chase bank account or mailed check both require Chase sending me an email which would require a reply. I asked her to transfer to the new Hyatt biz card account, I should spend at least that much at Hyatts this month, she said look for it in 24-48 hours.

The credit balance is inconsequential, I can afford to float that amount for a month or 2. The significant parts of all this are that a very gracious Hyatt Residence Club manager was willing to credit $1200 to one card then immediately bill to another card AND did so without charging me the transaction fee (as other vendors have done) AND that Chase did not (yet?) clawback the $5,000 incremental spend TQNs.

If I have just a WOH card, could I use the Chase shopping portal?

I saw the “credit refund” on the personal card account activity the next day but nothing on the biz card for 2 days. Called again, at least a live human picks up quickly. Of course, IAW Murphy’s Law, Chase mailed me a check!

AFAIK, the shopping portal earns you URs and you need a UR card (perhaps even a Sapphire card) to access it.

Any recent DPs on how long it takes for the 15k spending free night to arrive? Its already been past the 1-2 business days in which my statement with the qualifying transaction closed. Was hoping to use it soon for a stay in the next couple weeks but probably shouldnt have cut it so close on my end.
