World of Hyatt Credit Card benefit details and notes
Anniversary Free Night Award (Category 1-4)
- Issued 10 weeks after cardmember anniversary date
- Expires 1 year after issuance
- Ineligible for use with Club Lounge Access Awards and Complimentary Suite Upgrade Awards
- The spend counter for this benefit tracks total cumulative purchases during the current calendar year (excluding $95 annual fee and any other non-qualifying transactions).
- The spend counter for this benefit resets at the beginning of every calendar year. Chase does not make this spend counter visible to customers, so interested customers must calculate their own. Note that this is a separate spend counter from the "Two Additional Night Credits" spend counter below.
- Issued 1-2 days after statement closing date of the triggering transaction (the transaction causing the spend counter to cross $15k)
- Expires 1 year after issuance
- Ineligible for use with Club Lounge Access Awards and Complimentary Suite Upgrade Awards
- Cardmembers are eligible for only 1 Additional Free Night Award per calendar year (e.g., spending $30k does not result in two Additional Free Night Awards
- The spend counter for this benefit tracks total cumulative purchases since account opening (excluding $95 annual fee and any other non-qualifying transactions)
- This spend counter never resets. Chase does not make this spend counter visible to customers, so interested customers must calculate their own. Note that this is a separate spend counter from the "Additional Free Night Award" spend counter above.
- Issued 1-2 days after statement closing date of the triggering transaction (the transaction causing the spend counter to cross a multiple of $5k)
- For World of Hyatt status qualification purposes, the night credits are associated with the TRANSACTION date of the triggering transaction, not the posting date and not the statement closing date. For example, triggering transactions on 12/31/2022 (transaction date) will result in 2 night credits for the 2022 status year, regardless of posting date or statement closing date. Based on FT reports, transaction date appears to be based on the US Eastern Time Zone.
- World of Hyatt Credit Card: timing for $5k spend 2 qualifying nights
- 4 Bonus Points per $1 spent on purchases at Hyatt hotels
- 2 Bonus Points per $1 spent on restaurants, airline tickets purchased directly from the airline, local transit and commuting, and fitness club and gym memberships
- 1 Bonus Point per $1 spent on all other purchases
- Discoverist status every year
- 5 qualifying night credits every year
- No foreign transaction fees
- Travel & purchase coverage
Other notes and tips
Chase spending tracker
- The Chase spending tracker is useful for calculating your spend counter for the $15k Additional Free Night Award and your spend counter for the Two Additional Night Credits
- Chase mobile app: "View all transactions", then switch to the "Spending Summary" tab
- Chase website: From the main page, on the right hand side, click the "Spending & Budgeting" menu, then choose "Spending Summary"
- Remember to add spend from prior calendar year(s) as needed (see spend counter notes above), and to subtract $95 annual fee and any other non-qualifying transactions from all years
- Full list of non-qualifying transactions: returns, refunds, balance transfers, cash advances, travelers checks, foreign currency, money orders, wire transfers or similar cash-like transactions, lottery tickets, casino gaming chips, race track wagers or similar betting transactions, any checks that access your account, interest, unauthorized or fraudulent charges, and fees of any kind, including an annual fee

Need some advice here.
I'm very close to the Explorist. I know it is not the top, but still valuable. I can either get some cheap stays (like 3k points or 5k points per night booking), or put on $5k or $10k on my WoH card. My statement cuts early of the month. Here is what I'm thinking.
1. Put on most of the spending on the card before the statement cuts in early December. This will get Chase some time to communicate to Hyatt.
2. Call to change the statement closing date to mid December. So I get some more time to adjust my spending. But do not want to be late for the reporting from Chase.
Any pointers appreciated.

One thing to consider is that even when points have posted late, they have always been backdated to the statement date. I'm not sure if qual nights would do the same, but, if so, it doesn't really matter if it goes past Jan 1, unless you have a trip coming up and want to use the status ASAP.

As I said a few posts above, my 2 qual nights posted the day after my statement closed. YMMV, of course.

Some people quoted Ritz Carlton (Marriott) status on 8/24/2018. For people who spent $10,000 in an account year, we receive RC (also Marriott) Gold. The old RC/MR Gold was converted to new RC/MR Platinum Elite. Some people had the spending done in July or early August. Marriott did not get time to update their status before the change. They did not backdate the status. The new RC/MR Gold is worth much less than the new RC/MR Plat.
This is what gets me concerned here.

Do not need the status right away.

My 2 nights showed up the next day, like I said. My counter dropped by 2. But of course there are no guarantees.

This is very different. You are not getting a status upgrade. You are getting qualifying nights. Hyatt is very used to processing qualifying nights. This is not a special process for them. As soon as they are in their system, it's no different than if you checked out of a hotel.

I actually need to call them about my points. Only some of the points posted.. the points from some of the categories never made it. Hyatt shows them all as different line items, so I know exactly what's missing. Still, I have a feeling that this is going to be a difficult conversation.

For the folks who closed the old Hyatt and opened the new WoH card, I figure you are not limited by the 24-month bonus period?
We currently get two Hyatt, one old opened early this year and one WoH. I'm not sure if it is worth it to close the old one and wait to sign up the WoH. The 2,000 upgrade bonus is not really worth it. We do not really need the 2nd card for now.

mrs. brp has the card and we're looking to get to Explorist via a combination of (mostly) spend and some actual qual nights. She gets 5 qual nights at the start of each year and 2 for every $5K in spend. I assume that this is based on her membership year, yes? And qualification is based on the calendar year? In an ongoing sense this likely won't matter. But starting out the distinction does matter.
Thanks for any help in getting my head around this.
Cheers.

I'd like to tack onto this to ask a tangentially related question about the spend-based qualifying nights and the WOH qualification year:

re: the first part, when you pass a 5k multiple you get 2 nights. It's not really "based" on a time period. You get them when you get them (which is your statement closing date, possibly plus some indeterminate amount of time -- for me it was 1 day, but ymmv)
So, it matters which year the end of your statement falls into. If your statement closes Jan 6 2019, the 2 nights count towards 2019 qualification (even though most of the spend probably came in 2018)

We don’t really know this to be true — and if it turns out to be true, it’s not how the average cardholder would expect it to work.

By calendar year. Chase undoubtedly could split off any remaining Dec. 2018 spending if Hyatt wants it to. It very well could end up working as you mentioned, but we won’t know for sure until January.

I'm not sure why people are speculating about Chase not giving you what the terms of the card say they will give you. That's like speculating that maybe if you get 60 nights in a year, Hyatt won't make you globalist. Theoretically possible? Sure. Realistic? Not really.

That would directly violate the terms and conditions of the card. It specifically says that you get two tier-qualifying nights every time you make $5,000 in purchases. There is then about a page of fine print, and none of it says that all $5000 of spend has to come in the same year. If you spend $3000 in December and $2000 in January, you have spent $5000 and are entitled to the two qualify nights.

Anyone who wants to bet their Globalist status, or want to risk battling Chase over an interpretation after the fact, is obviously free to do so. Otherwise, the prudent thing to do, given that this is new for both Chase and Hyatt, is to wrap up any needed spending before one’s December statement cuts.
