World of Hyatt Credit Card benefit details and notes

Anniversary Free Night Award (Category 1-4)
  • Issued 10 weeks after cardmember anniversary date
  • Expires 1 year after issuance
  • Ineligible for use with Club Lounge Access Awards and Complimentary Suite Upgrade Awards
Additional Free Night Award (Category 1-4) with $15k spend
  • The spend counter for this benefit tracks total cumulative purchases during the current calendar year (excluding $95 annual fee and any other non-qualifying transactions).
  • The spend counter for this benefit resets at the beginning of every calendar year. Chase does not make this spend counter visible to customers, so interested customers must calculate their own. Note that this is a separate spend counter from the "Two Additional Night Credits" spend counter below.
  • Issued 1-2 days after statement closing date of the triggering transaction (the transaction causing the spend counter to cross $15k)
  • Expires 1 year after issuance
  • Ineligible for use with Club Lounge Access Awards and Complimentary Suite Upgrade Awards
  • Cardmembers are eligible for only 1 Additional Free Night Award per calendar year (e.g., spending $30k does not result in two Additional Free Night Awards
Two Additional Night Credits with every $5k spend
  • The spend counter for this benefit tracks total cumulative purchases since account opening (excluding $95 annual fee and any other non-qualifying transactions)
  • This spend counter never resets. Chase does not make this spend counter visible to customers, so interested customers must calculate their own. Note that this is a separate spend counter from the "Additional Free Night Award" spend counter above.
  • Issued 1-2 days after statement closing date of the triggering transaction (the transaction causing the spend counter to cross a multiple of $5k)
  • For World of Hyatt status qualification purposes, the night credits are associated with the TRANSACTION date of the triggering transaction, not the posting date and not the statement closing date. For example, triggering transactions on 12/31/2022 (transaction date) will result in 2 night credits for the 2022 status year, regardless of posting date or statement closing date. Based on FT reports, transaction date appears to be based on the US Eastern Time Zone.
  • World of Hyatt Credit Card: timing for $5k spend 2 qualifying nights
Other Benefits
  • 4 Bonus Points per $1 spent on purchases at Hyatt hotels
  • 2 Bonus Points per $1 spent on restaurants, airline tickets purchased directly from the airline, local transit and commuting, and fitness club and gym memberships
  • 1 Bonus Point per $1 spent on all other purchases
  • Discoverist status every year
  • 5 qualifying night credits every year
  • No foreign transaction fees
  • Travel & purchase coverage

Other notes and tips

Chase spending tracker
  • The Chase spending tracker is useful for calculating your spend counter for the $15k Additional Free Night Award and your spend counter for the Two Additional Night Credits
  • Chase mobile app: "View all transactions", then switch to the "Spending Summary" tab
  • Chase website: From the main page, on the right hand side, click the "Spending & Budgeting" menu, then choose "Spending Summary"
  • Remember to add spend from prior calendar year(s) as needed (see spend counter notes above), and to subtract $95 annual fee and any other non-qualifying transactions from all years
  • Full list of non-qualifying transactions: returns, refunds, balance transfers, cash advances, travelers checks, foreign currency, money orders, wire transfers or similar cash-like transactions, lottery tickets, casino gaming chips, race track wagers or similar betting transactions, any checks that access your account, interest, unauthorized or fraudulent charges, and fees of any kind, including an annual fee

Getting it in writing is not worth much. They will just tell you that their rep made a mistake.

I seriously doubt that the rep didn't make a mistake, by the way. So they will just ignore partial spend for the year? That seems horrible.

Eg -- you get the card and spend $2500 in december. You spend another $2500 in January. No qual nights?

(1) why would you want this
(2) I seriously doubt that's how it works.

I wouldn’t trust those idiots at Chase. When I first applied, I attempted to get the processing expedited and was told different answers each time I called in. What was amazing was that I could get exactly opposite answers, literally each call— for the better part of 2 weeks, until my card showed up unexpectedly one day. Surprised that you even got this level of clarity. Keep your expectations low.
[rant over]

But, given how points seem to post to my account from this card, I might agree with their answer.

Need some guidance.

What I thought was the free anniversary night on the old version of the card posted around Oct 11 in my WOH account with code AwardsDetail.Code.CHRM2

Paid everything off to prepare to cancel and wait 5 days and apply for the new card.

Nov 1 the annual fee posts for this new year which makes me think that perhaps AwardsDetail.Code.CHRM2 wasn't the annual anniversary free night.

Should I pay off the $75 fee and then cancel or will they wipe the annual fee when I call to cancel? Wait for the annual free night to post first?

Check the Awards section of your Hyatt account to see which free night posted. If it posted not long before the annual fee, it's likely the anniversary night. The only other possibilities would be if you had passed 30 Hyatt nights or stayed at your fifth different Hyatt brand in early October.

You don't need to pay the $75 annual fee before canceling, as it will be reversed almost immediately when you cancel.

Definitely wait the 5 days (and remember to use a referral link when applying for the new one).

If you want the night, then I'd wait for the new night to post then cancel/upgrade. I did this (sort of by chance) when I moved to WoH card in June. They told me that the night was mine to keep (still on my account)

This sounds like standard operating procedure. My AF on old card hit 1 October, with the annual night having posted a couple weeks earlier in September. It was indeed CHRM2, just like you(rs). Cancelled card in mid-October. Free anniversary night is still there, resting comfortably.

Haven't reapplied yet for new WoH card since I have already qualified this year as Globalist, and want to concentrate the $6,000 spend in 2019, so that it goes toward qualifying nights and the $15,000 free night then.

If you look in the Account section and then click on Awards in the Hyatt iPhone app, the Chase anniversary night is explicitly listed as the "Anniversary Free Night Award." No need to guess re: award codes.

Apologies if this question has been answered before. If I pay and close the old Hyatt card before my statement closes, would I be in danger of not receiving those points in my WoH account when the statement does close? In other words, is there any reason the account needs to be open when points accrued on the card typically transfer each month into WoH? Thank you for your help!

Data Point RE: points and qual nights posting

This is my 2nd month with the card, and my statement closing date was yesterday (Nov 7). This was also the month that I passed both $3k and $5k in spend.

Nothing had posted as of late last night.

By this morning, all my points (points for spend, + 40k bonus) had posted. My 2 qual nights had not. However, as of just now (early evening) my 2 qual nights also posted.

So... 1 day after statement closing, and everything is there. Can't complain...

EDIT: Maybe I can complain. My signup bonus pts, pts from hyatt purchases, pts from airline purchases, and pts from local transit all posted. My pts from restaurants and pts from everyday spend did NOT.

After you spend 15k on the card in a year, or at your 1 year anniversary.

The free night is not a sign up bonus. It's an anniversary bonus. The 40k/60k miles are the sign up bonus.

Need some advice here.

I'm very close to the Explorist. I know it is not the top, but still valuable. I can either get some cheap stays (like 3k points or 5k points per night booking), or put on $5k or $10k on my WoH card. My statement cuts early of the month. Here is what I'm thinking.

1. Put on most of the spending on the card before the statement cuts in early December. This will get Chase some time to communicate to Hyatt.
2. Call to change the statement closing date to mid December. So I get some more time to adjust my spending. But do not want to be late for the reporting from Chase.

Any pointers appreciated.

3k or 5k bookings are not cheap

Changing the statement date with Chase often results in a longer statement period, so I wouldn’t do that until after the statement closes in early Dec. and the spending has reported to Hyatt.

Talking about 3,000 or 5,000 points per night. Sry if I confused anyone. It is worth about $60 per night if I'm short for status.

Reading some other posts after #560. It seems it is better to get all spending done before the Dec statement closes in early December. It is rushing, but can get done. I do not want to take the risk and trust the CSR from Chase.

This is how I did with the Chase Ritz card. Got spending done in June and statement sent in July. RC/MR/SPG merge done in late August. Very safe.

Thx for the advice. Not sure if there is any other shortcut to get to the finish line. I did not prepare for this until a couple weeks ago. Or I get more time.
