World of Hyatt Credit Card benefit details and notes

Anniversary Free Night Award (Category 1-4)
  • Issued 10 weeks after cardmember anniversary date
  • Expires 1 year after issuance
  • Ineligible for use with Club Lounge Access Awards and Complimentary Suite Upgrade Awards
Additional Free Night Award (Category 1-4) with $15k spend
  • The spend counter for this benefit tracks total cumulative purchases during the current calendar year (excluding $95 annual fee and any other non-qualifying transactions).
  • The spend counter for this benefit resets at the beginning of every calendar year. Chase does not make this spend counter visible to customers, so interested customers must calculate their own. Note that this is a separate spend counter from the "Two Additional Night Credits" spend counter below.
  • Issued 1-2 days after statement closing date of the triggering transaction (the transaction causing the spend counter to cross $15k)
  • Expires 1 year after issuance
  • Ineligible for use with Club Lounge Access Awards and Complimentary Suite Upgrade Awards
  • Cardmembers are eligible for only 1 Additional Free Night Award per calendar year (e.g., spending $30k does not result in two Additional Free Night Awards
Two Additional Night Credits with every $5k spend
  • The spend counter for this benefit tracks total cumulative purchases since account opening (excluding $95 annual fee and any other non-qualifying transactions)
  • This spend counter never resets. Chase does not make this spend counter visible to customers, so interested customers must calculate their own. Note that this is a separate spend counter from the "Additional Free Night Award" spend counter above.
  • Issued 1-2 days after statement closing date of the triggering transaction (the transaction causing the spend counter to cross a multiple of $5k)
  • For World of Hyatt status qualification purposes, the night credits are associated with the TRANSACTION date of the triggering transaction, not the posting date and not the statement closing date. For example, triggering transactions on 12/31/2022 (transaction date) will result in 2 night credits for the 2022 status year, regardless of posting date or statement closing date. Based on FT reports, transaction date appears to be based on the US Eastern Time Zone.
  • World of Hyatt Credit Card: timing for $5k spend 2 qualifying nights
Other Benefits
  • 4 Bonus Points per $1 spent on purchases at Hyatt hotels
  • 2 Bonus Points per $1 spent on restaurants, airline tickets purchased directly from the airline, local transit and commuting, and fitness club and gym memberships
  • 1 Bonus Point per $1 spent on all other purchases
  • Discoverist status every year
  • 5 qualifying night credits every year
  • No foreign transaction fees
  • Travel & purchase coverage

Other notes and tips

Chase spending tracker
  • The Chase spending tracker is useful for calculating your spend counter for the $15k Additional Free Night Award and your spend counter for the Two Additional Night Credits
  • Chase mobile app: "View all transactions", then switch to the "Spending Summary" tab
  • Chase website: From the main page, on the right hand side, click the "Spending & Budgeting" menu, then choose "Spending Summary"
  • Remember to add spend from prior calendar year(s) as needed (see spend counter notes above), and to subtract $95 annual fee and any other non-qualifying transactions from all years
  • Full list of non-qualifying transactions: returns, refunds, balance transfers, cash advances, travelers checks, foreign currency, money orders, wire transfers or similar cash-like transactions, lottery tickets, casino gaming chips, race track wagers or similar betting transactions, any checks that access your account, interest, unauthorized or fraudulent charges, and fees of any kind, including an annual fee

But if you put the same spend on the Chase Sapphire Reserve you get 45,000 Ultimate Reward points which can be transferred to Hyatt (or spent on on travel worth $675). Isn't that a wash (or even a point in favor of using the CSR)?

Or are people looking at this mainly for unbonused spend? In other words (especially for those of us who don't have unlimited income to put through credit cards) might this be a decent replacement for the SPG Amex since for the first $15K of regular spend you're essentially getting 2 Hyatt points per Dollar (i.e. 15K points plus a cert worth 15K)? Which isn't a bad deal.

Anyway, trying to understand the possibilities (and to find a replacement for everyday/unbonused/non-bonus spend that I have been heretofore putting on the SPG Amex. Normally a 2% cashback card would be good but we are overseas 75% of the year, so a forex fee free card like the WOH Visa is important.
I mainly agree with MarkOks points.

- I don't get a whole lot in the CSR bonus categories, so we're really talking 15K UR points vs 15K Hyatt points + 1 Cat1-4 cert + 6 night credits
- I have struggled to get to a full 60 nights for Globalist status. So the 6 nights from spend should be just enough to get me there. It would otherwise require 6 mattress run nights, so it is valuable to me.

However, with the new WoH card they are changing my thinking due to being able to earn stay credit toward Globalist for a certain amount of spend. Depending on how much you travel every year, this could have a big benefit for you to maintain status and is unique to the WoH card. That, and the free Cat 1-4 award every year and another at 15K spend will make it my primary card going forward.

For me, putting all my Hyatt purchases on the WoH card will get me to the 15K spend needed as is. I have used my Hyatt card in non-bonus categories a lot during the last year, but now that my valuable >2 cent/pt redemptions aren't really outpacing my natural Hyatt pt earning, I have put most of my non bonus spend on a 2% cash back.

I can see how some of your situations would lead to different conclusions from where I am at. I only put a grand total of maybe $50K a year on cards. At least half of my credit card spend is actually in bonus categories (travel and dining) and for that I think the CSR is a better card. Especially since I won't get anywhere close to Globalist and since my Hyatt stays are mostly low-end Hyatt Places in any case. But for non-bonus spend, putting 15,000 on the card leads to 30,000 worth of rewards and that would be worth it for me. Anyway, I appreciate the input and feedback.

This card had me rethink my whole loyalty schedule... I was gonna drop Globalist because I cant get 55 nights a year on hyatts. I can do 30 without a problem every year. So with this card I can Manufacture spend $50,000 at a cost of $1,250 (2.5%) for 50,000 points plus 4 Suite Upgrades plus 1 free night on any hyatt (30,000 points) plus globalist benefits.... hmmmmm It might be worth it. Getting marriott status/spg is gonna be super easy now with 35 nights and the huge footprint.

Yeah, I think in your case, I would keep the non-Hyatt travel and dining on the CSR, put Hyatt on the WoH card and whatever non-bonus spend needed to get the 15K award. For you, that may be a decent amount of your non-bonus spend, but I agree that the getting the bonus award is worth enough to get (even if it is on non bonus spend).

Between the extra cat1-4 with this card, the extra point on my ~20K in Hyatt purchases, and the fact that the card's qualifying night credits easily gets me at least 1 more of the 70/80/90/100 bonuses, I am feeling spoiled with these changes.

How do the 5 nights display on the WoH website? Does it say 25 nights to Explorist on the bar graph, as opposed to 30 nights? Chase intervened and manually updated my status today, but I wonder if this piece is still missing? Chase did say they have a system error.

Mini update:

11 July: Applied and approved for WoH card, contacted them via SM about sending card overseas, and was told to wait for verification.
15 July: 5 elite nights posted to WoH account
18 July: Asked once again for card to be sent overseas.
21 July: New card arrived in Singapore via UPS (Yippee!)

I was bugging them that much because I have a lot of flights that I need to buy, which I have been putting on hold.

I've been checking my mail box daily anxiously awaiting my flimsy card arrival. Do you think I need more purpose and meaning in my life?

It just reduced the number of nights I needed to qualify.

My experience in applying for this card has been less than rosy. I'd sure appreciate any expert help in troubleshooting this project.

1. Decided that I want to cancel existing card (which I've had for 10 years) and apply for new card.
2. Cancelled existing card on July 17.
3. Applied for new card on July 22. Denied because I already have the Hyatt card.
4. Called their lending department. The cancelled card has to go through a full billing cycle before it will drop off the account .
5. Current payment due date is August 10 . I asked them to move the due date to July 22. Phone rep would not even attempt to start to begin to try do this. I asked for supervisor.
6. Supervisor said t hat if due date is July 23, it will lengthen the cycle instead of shorten it. I then asked her to move the date from August 10 to August 9. Yes, if she does that, it will speed up the cycle. So it's a matter of trial-and-error, to find the earliest date it can be moved to. That earliest date ends up being August 1.
7. So Payment due date is now August 1, closing date is a few days after that, and by then the card will be off my account and I can apply for the new one.

Does anyone know of a quicker way to get the old (closed) card off the account, so that a new application will go through?

Does your old card have a balance? Most people here were fine with a 5-day wait between cancellation and application as long as the old card had been paid to $0.

I like that the color is different purely from a point of distinguishing it from my other cards. For the last year, I've had four dark grey cards in my wallet and were too often juggling them at the register looking for the right one. Metal, plastic, red, blue, indigo, none of that matters to me.

On another note. My 2000 pts for the straight swap just posted with my first statement since the switch.
